The Arkive: Ark and Dove's Newsletter
All are invited to celebrate the 7th Sunday after Pentecost, as we finish our preaching series on the Lord's Prayer--9:30 am (choir led worship) and 11:00 am (band led worship)!
Message from Pastor Tim
Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

We have been exploring the Lord's Prayer this summer and this Sunday will be the last sermon in a series of six. Pastor Jon and I are working on our edits and footnotes and we will get the whole series on line. At the same time we have asked all Ark and Dove children to memorize the Lord's Prayer at home. I want to encourage all of you who are parents to work with your children on this prayer.  Pastor Jon and I confess that we have not been consistent with what we have told the children we expect in terms of a date. Here is our final conclusion - Sunday September 8. When your child has the Lord's Prayer memorized, drop us an e-mail and we will send a thank you note to your child hand signed by both pastors. September 8 is our goal.

You may have noticed that work is being done to repair our storm water systems, which helps keep the Chesapeake Bay clean. Thank you for your previous giving to Capital campaigns and our current Mission and Ministry Fund. Your generosity powers this work and help us to be good stewards of God's green earth.

May God bless you on your summer adventures. And thank you to our middle school youth, their advisors and pastor Jon for working this week with The Center and First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis to teach children in Eastport to read and or improve their reading skills. Nice work!

In Christ's love,

Pastor Tim

Verse and Prayer
Ephesians 3:16-17
16  I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, 17  and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.

Mighty and merciful God, lover of justice and equity, friend of the friendless; you call us to support the weak, to help those who suffer, to comfort the lonely and to honor all people. By the power of your Holy Spirit, make us advocates for your justice,  instruments of your peace, and vehicles of succor, so that all may be reconciled in your beloved community; through Jesus Christ our friend and Savior. Amen.

We welcome back Paula Sparks to the piano this week to lead our music in worship. The choir completes their introit cycle with the tune Vater Unser, this last time reflecting on the final passage of the Lord's Prayer. The musical offering this week is Duncan McIntyre's setting of the Lord's Prayer, with an upbeat, rhythmic melody that's fun to sing and hear.

Peace,

Margaret

There is still a call to help build our audio group for the band led service. A regular rotating schedule will begin this September with the start of the new school year. Please keep an ear out for a class that I am going to offer this August for those interested in learning how to work the audio board so that any volunteers feel comfortable to assist the band during service.

God bless,

Mission
Help a Young Neighbor Get Back to School
The Mission Ministry is teaming up again this summer with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Department of Social Services to provide school supplies for local elementary and middle school students.  Social Services matched Ark & Dove with 35 students at Ridgeway Elementary School, off Telegraph Road three miles north of us.

School supplies are a prerequisite for school participation and success. The need to purchase school supplies affects our region’s households in a variety of ways. For some it’s an incidental expense, for others an annual extra expense that needs to be thoughtfully worked into the budget, and for some it’s impossible to get everything needed.

Beginning July 28, we will have sign-ups, after worship services, and provide detailed instructions with the Ridgeway supplies lists. Ark & Dove donors will select a student to sponsor, purchase the backpack and supplies, deliver them to the school by August 28th, or bring them to church by August 25th for delivery. We will also be teaming up again with Meade Middle School to collect supplies they need to support their students. For questions, or if you want to sign up but can’t do so at church, please contact Greg Makar (301-483-8255, GLMakar@juno.com).
Children's Book Drive through July 31
Thank you so much for your generous response to the Book Drive for Children of Women incarcerated at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women and their Corrections Officers. You have donated over 200 new or like-new books, which will be cherished by the children and will help build bonds between moms and their kids. We'll be continuing with the book drive through the end of July. There is a box in the lobby for your donations. Thank you, again for your caring and love. Featured item for July—CANNED FISH (tuna, salmon, etc). Please drop off food items in the Mission Zone bin.  Thank you for your donations
