Force Main Replacement Along Pine Tree Drive

Notice Date: Wednesday, April 29, 2026

What's Happening

Crews have completed the installation of all sewer pipes and required connections. During this work, unforeseen conditions were encountered that required adjustments in the field, which has extended the construction timeline

Over the next few weeks, crews will remove the temporary pipes near the pump station, take out an older pipe located beneath the bridge and begin restoring the roadway to its previous condition.

Traffic Changes

Lane closures are currently in place on both the north and south sides of the bridge on Pine Tree Drive near 51 Street. These closures reduce traffic to one lane in each direction and are expected to remain in effect for the next 3–5 weeks. Please find maps of the road reconfigurations on the north and south sides below.

South of 51 Street on Pine Tree Drive

  • A short section of Pine Tree Drive just south of the 51 Street bridge is closed for the work zone. Southbound traffic is being routed into one of the northbound lanes, which has been temporarily reconfigured to provide one lane in each direction through this segment. Southbound vehicles will then transition back to the designated southbound lane beyond the work area.

North of 51 Street on Pine Tree Drive

  • Southbound lanes approaching 51 Street and La Gorce Drive are currently closed. Drivers will be directed to detour by turning left onto 52 Street to continue traveling south. By the end of May, the contractor anticipates reopening one of the two southbound lanes to help improve traffic flow.

Timeline

The project is expected to reach substantial completion by the end of June 2026, at which point most contractor equipment and vehicles will be removed from the work area. After substantial completion, the contractor will proceed with restoring the sidewalk, curb and roadway. Final completion is expected in August 2026, when all restoration activities are finished and the area is returned to its pre‑construction condition.

Work hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with additional time subject to approval and community notification. Please know that schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Lane closures will be temporarily implemented during each phase of construction.
  • Residents will have continuous access to their driveways throughout the project.
  • Moderate levels of construction noise are expected during the day.
  • Construction equipment, machinery and workers will be present on the job site.
  • Parking restrictions on W 51 Terrace will remain in effect 24/7 as needed by the contractor for material storage and construction activities. Please follow all posted signage to prevent enforcement actions.

Project Overview & Benefits

The City of Miami Beach is replacing aging sewer mains on the Pine Tree Drive bridge between 49 and 51 Streets with two subaqueous sewer lines. These pipes are deemed critical in the city's Sewer Master Plan and are in poor condition, having surpassed their useful life. This project will improve the overall efficiency and reliability of our system.
