Project Update: Force Main Replacement Along Pine Tree Drive

Notice Date: Wednesday, April 16, 2025

What's Happening

Force Main Replacement along Pine Tree Drive at 51 Street is underway. This project extends across the Flamingo Waterway, starting at Sewer Pump Station #15, located at the intersection of Pine Tree Drive and La Gorce Drive, and continues to the south side of the bridge near 49 Street and Pine Tree Drive.

Approximately 1,600 linear feet of force main have been installed to date using horizontal directional drilling (HDD). In addition, work on the south side of the project is moving forward with the open-cut method for force main installations.

The City had been waiting for a dewatering permit from the Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM), which has now been issued. Consequently, dewatering operations have commenced, and temporary infrastructure, including well points and an injection well, has been set up to support the ongoing work.

Upon completion of the project, the area will be restored to its original condition, with necessary repairs made to the road, landscaping, curbs, and sidewalks.

Project Overview & Benefits

The City of Miami Beach is replacing aging sewer mains on the Pine Tree Drive bridge between 49 and 51 Streets with two subaqueous sewer lines. These pipes are deemed critical in the City's Sewer Master Plan and are in poor condition, having surpassed their useful life. This project will improve the overall efficiency and reliability of our system.
