JOIN US FOR THIS UNPRECEDENTED CELEBRATION!
Plymouth is in the national spotlight this week!
Members of the National Women's Caucus for Art will be here in Plymouth for the organization's annual meeting, and to witness this important exhibition.
FORCE OF NATURE   features work by 82 artists from 37 states around the nation, addressing the themes of nature and feminine power. It includes a wide range of media -- from painting, drawing, collage, and photography to fiber, printing, ceramics, mixed media, indoor and outdoor sculpture, video and installation.

The work submitted for this exhibition was encouraged to be broadly interpreted with concepts that might range from myth and legend to the personal, historical or political. Artwork considering Nature (as in Mother Nature and her natural forces), eco art and ecofeminism were also strongly encouraged. The exhibit was juried by WCA Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Judith K. Brodsky, who is a Distinguished Professor Emerita, Department of Visual Arts, Rutgers University; Founding Director of the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper (renamed the Brodsky Center in her honor); co-founder and co-director with Ferris Olin of the Rutgers Institute for Women and Art, and The Feminist Art Project, a national program to promote recognition of women artists.  See more about Judith here.
Presented in collaboration with Women's Caucus for Art NH, which received funding in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts. A big THANK YOU to our partners for related events which include The Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire, The Pemi Youth Center, the New Hampshire Music Festival, and Friends of the Arts Regional Arts Council.

Q&A to follow the screening with co-curator, C. M. Judge.

C. M. Judge and French video artist, V?ronique Sapin hatched the idea for FemLink: the international video collage and became co-curators for the video project that builds a link throughout the world between women video artists and their work. The structure is simple: one artist from each country creates a one to two minute video around a common theme.  Over the past nine years, artists in the FemLink Collective have created nine collages featuring over 250 video shorts created by 149 women video artists from 64 countries.

The New Hampshire Women's Caucus for Art will host a screening of the FemLink collage, AGGRESSION which deals with attitudes around the topic of violence, forcefulness and assertiveness. From moving works that memorialize the fallen, such as Vouvoula Skoura's (Greece) In Memory of a 15 Year Old Boy who was killed by a policeman in Athens to the humorously frenetic tug-of-war video, X on the Shore by Hiroko Okada (Japan), the collage offers glimpses into this all too familiar topic -- except this time, one experiences a wide range of diverse, deeply thoughtful reactions through the eyes of 23 women artists from around the world.
