Northern MD and SE PA


WHAT... Snow will start covering the region on Saturday afternoon, with its intensity ranging from moderate to heavy for a while before gradually subsiding by midnight.


This is the first plowable snow event forecast in nearly TWO YEARS for the major coastal cities: New York (689 days), Philadelphia (704), and Baltimore (705) are currently in their longest droughts on record since one inch of snow fell in a 24-hour period.


WHERE...North and West of I-95. Heavier accumulations in Central PA and Mountains of Maryland.


WHEN... Saturday Midday through early Sunday Morning


IMPACTS... A full alert will be available Friday Morning with more specifics, preliminary range on totals for the event is in the ballpark of 3 - 8" interior I-95 Corridor is expected to see mixing with Rain which will limit accumulations.

Preliminary range for totals: 4-8"; 3-6" toward Allentown; 5-10" I-81 North

High near 35, dipping to 31 - 33 in snow

Central Pennsylvania (PA)

Cloudy. Snow develops 1 - 4 PM, becoming moderate to heavy for a few hours through the evening. Activity gradually tapers down to flurries / drizzle midnight into the predawn.

Plowable snowfall from coastal storm Saturday PM - Night.

Preliminary range for totals: 4-8"

High near 35, dipping to 31 - 33 in snow

North and West Suburbs

Cloudy. Precipitation, largely as snow, develops 1:30 - 4:30 PM. Snow can fall moderate to heavy for a couple hours initially before further mixing with sleet / rain (may even change to rain) in the evening. Precip tapers in the predawn.

Favoring a low-end plowable accumulation with coastal storm Saturday Night.

High in the upper 30s, settling to 32 - 34 in precip


Philadelphia City and South

Increasingly cloudy. Precipitation arrives 2 - 5 PM, largely as rain, though can mix with / briefly fall as a wet snow for a couple hours initially. Any mixing increasingly gives way to a moderate-to-heavy plain rain in the evening. Rain tapers in the predawn.

Brief potential for salting as precip arrives late Saturday. Mixing limits risk.

High in the upper 30s, cooling a bit in precip

Maryland (MD)


Carroll & Frederick

Cloudy with snow developing between 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM. Snow then falls at a steady to heavy pace for a few hours before potentially mixing with sleet / rain in the evening. Precip tapers to some drizzle / flurries by midnight.

Favored scenario is low-end plowable snowfall.

High 34 - 38, falling to 32 - 35 during precip


Baltimore & East

Cloudy with mostly snow / some rain developing between 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM. Precipitation becomes steadier during the afternoon, but then precip type favors rain by the evening. Activity tapers to just some lingering drizzle ~12 AM

Initial snow accumulation may favor colder surfaces before a flip to rain.

High 35 - 39, cooling a bit in precip
