New Consensus Study Report from the National Academies for Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine: Forecasting the Ocean: The 2025-2035 Decade. of Ocean Science
This report provides recommendations on advancing ocean research and improving the forecasting of ocean processes through a multifaceted approach, incorporating the utilization of AI and machine learning, existing underwater infrastructure, and strategic partnerships and collaborations. Three focus areas within ocean research emerged as important in improving forecasting of ocean processes: Ocean and Climate, Ecosystem Resilience, and Extreme Events.

ASFPM Foundation Projects
The American Society for Floodplain Management Foundation Projects Committee is dedicated to supporting initiatives that align with the Foundation's mission of fostering flood risk reduction and resilient communities. The committee identifies and funds projects that contribute to this goal, working in collaboration with ASFPM, its chapters, and members. By supporting projects that address critical flood risk management issues and promote community resilience, the ASFPM Foundation Projects Committee contributes to the Foundation's efforts to create a safer and more sustainable future for all. The project must be led or co-sponsored by an ASFPM Chapter.

North Carolina Resilient Coastal Communities Program
The N.C. Division of Coastal Management is taking applications from local coastal-based governments to participate in the state Resilient Coastal Communities Program’s phases 1-4. The Resilient Coastal Communities Program aids communities in getting a better understanding of and enhancing coastal resilience at the local level. Phases within the program guide communities in assessing local risks and vulnerabilities, engaging representative stakeholders, and collaborating to identify and prioritize projects and actions to enhance resilience and protect critical assets. County and municipal governments within the 20 Coastal Area Manage Act, or CAMA, counties and contractors who provide technical assistance to the localities selected may apply.

Beach Conditions Reporting System: The Beach Conditions Reporting System by Mote Marine Laboratory provides condition reports for beaches and coastal recreation areas. This citizen-science program is supported by volunteer Beach Ambassadors that undergo training to make accurate condition reports. Community members can also submit reports that are validated by other users. There are several sites located along the east and west coasts of Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and the Gulf coast.

- Search historical data
- Compare datasets from different stations
- Generate and share custom data views (how to coming soon!)
- Access metadata for SECOORA stations
- Access to regional and sub-regional models, including coastal circulation, water quality and fisheries habitat models.

Sentinel Landscapes Partnership: Accepting applications
The Sentinel Landscapes Partnership is a coalition of federal agencies, state and local governments, and non-governmental organizations that work with willing landowners and land managers to advance sustainable land use practices around military installations and ranges.The partnership aligns the objectives of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of the Interior (DOI), and Federal Emergency Management Agency to strengthen military readiness, conserve natural resources, bolster agricultural and forestry economies, increase public access to outdoor recreation, and enhance resilience to future environmental conditions. Sentinel landscape designation provides a myriad of benefits for local partnerships, including support to hire a sentinel landscape coordinator and offering priority consideration for certain federal funding opportunities.

The intent of the Youth Preparedness Council is to bring together young leaders who have an interest in making a difference in their communities and in advancing disaster preparedness efforts on a national and local level. The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is seeking applicants and internship partners for the new Professional Science Master (PSM) degree as part of UVI’s Marine and Environmental Science program (MMES).
NOAA’s Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) is gathering input from users of tidal datums and coastal tools, like flood forecasting models and inundation maps, on the upcoming National Tidal Datum Epoch (NTDE) update. This quick, 3-minute survey will help NOAA understand how these changes may affect coastal practitioners and guide the creation of resources to better support communities facing coastal flooding and other challenges. Your feedback will be valuable in shaping tools to meet the needs of those working along our coasts.
