Govt. Encourages Pvt. Investment in Railways Through CSR Programs
The Government has established a policy to encourage private companies to engage in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in the national railways - including water recycling, solar energy, sanitation activities.  
Govt. Adds 458 Examiners to Speed up Patent Clearance Process
In a bid to speed up clearances for patents, designs and trademarks, the Government has added 458 examiners to the existing 130. In addition, 263 examiners will be hired on a contract basis. Applications for trademarks would be cleared within a month by March 2017, said Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). 

Govt. Exempts Start-ups from labor Law Inspections, Can Self-Certify
In order to promote start-ups and incentivize entrepreneurs, the Labor Ministry has advised the nation's administrative districts to determine start-up compliance based on self-certification and regulation of the inspections under various labor laws. 

New Real Estate Act Comes into Force to Promote Sector
In a bid to protect consumers and promote a credible real estate sector, the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act of 2016 comes into force this week. It seeks to create an environment of trust, confidence, credible transactions and efficient and time-bound execution of projects. 

Govt. Oks Building of 4 New Airports
 To keep up with the booming Indian air travel sector, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has given in-principle site approval for four new airports, including one Dholera in Gujarat and others in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan this year.

FoRex Earnings from Tourism Reaches $6 Bn So Far in 2016
Foreign exchange earnings through tourism in India stood at $6 billion in the first three months of 2016, the Government said. This puts 2016 tourist earnings on pace to beat last year's number of $20.3 billion.

India Launches 7th Satellite to Support Navigation System
A 3,100-pound satellite, the seventh in the I ndian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) system, was launched this week by the space program's highly efficient ISRO Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. IRNSS is an independent regional navigation satellite system designed to provide position information in the Indian region.

USIBC: Tech to Play Major Role in U.S.-India Ties
The U.S.-India business corridor is 'uniquely' poised to build the digital future of the global economy, corporate leaders from the two countries said at a summit of the business advocacy group USIBC. Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, highlighted programs such as Digital India, Start-up India, Skill India, and Make in India.  

India Travelers are Big Spenders Abroad
The Indian globetrotter has emerged as one of the world's biggest spenders and is being wooed aggressively for his and her big bucks. An average India traveller spends $4,500 to $6,000 on a U.S. trip, which usually lasts 15-33 days, according to Cox & Kings travel agency. Indian travelers typically visit the U.K. for 10-20 days and spend between $6,000 and $9,000.
