School Attendance Matters
|
|
It's National School Attendance Awareness Month and Forest City is taking part to remind students and families about the importance of regular school attendance!
- Regular attendance is essential for learning. When students miss school, they fall behind their classmates and it can be difficult and stressful to catch up.
- In addition to academic impacts, missing school can also have social and emotional consequences. Students who repeatedly miss school may feel isolated from their peers and may have difficulty keeping friendships. They may also feel behind and anxious about their schoolwork.
There are many reasons why a student may need to miss school. Common reasons include illness, family emergencies, and transportation needs. However, it is important to note that even one, two or three unexcused absences per month can have a negative impact on a student's academic progress.
If your child is struggling with attendance, please contact the school immediately. We can work together to develop a plan to help your child attend school more regularly.
As we partner with families, here are some tips for helping your child attend school regularly:
- Make sure your child gets enough sleep.
- Create a regular bedtime routine and stick to it as much as possible, even on weekends.
- Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast before school or at school.
- Help your child get organized and prepared for school the night before.
- Make sure your child knows the school's attendance policy and the consequences of missing school.
- Communicate with your child's teachers and school administrators on a regular basis.
- Partner with the school to select a school activity your child can be involved with to help encourage belonging to and feeling part of the school community.
Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to working with you to make sure each child has a successful school year! WELCOME BACK!

Completing online registration is SO IMPORTANT for SO MANY REASONS. We use the information to:
- Establish bus routes
- Ensure we have up-to-date emergency contact information and student health-related information
- Collect several required parent/guardian authorizations
- Apply free/reduced qualifications to school fees (another authorization that is required).
In addition, the contact information that you provide feeds our school messaging system, SchoolMessenger, so that we can send important notifications and keep you in the know.
Thank you for your cooperation!

NEW! Anonymous Reporting Iowa Initiative
|
|
|
New Safe+Sound Iowa Initiative
|
Creating a safe learning environment starts with awareness and early reporting of concerning behaviors. That’s why the Iowa Governor’s School Safety Bureau developed Safe+Sound Iowa—
a free anonymous reporting program for students, teachers, parents and community members to help identify and provide intervention for students in crisis or at risk for violence before
they harm themselves or others.
There are 3 ways that anyone can report a concern and trained experts are ready to respond 24/7.
The Middle School and High School Principals have talked to the students about this initiative.

This summer you could find some FFA members going back in time, with a partnership with Heritage Park the FFA chapter helped with oat harvest and volunteered at the 40th annual threshing show held at the Heritage Park of North Iowa. Pictured is Jordan Kelly, Aaliyah Wicke, Dru Seglem, Gabby Branstad, and Riley Smith loading oat bundles on a hayrack which was back-breaking work on a hot August day. Other members who helped included Peyton Klein, Lexi Schaumberg, Noah Lewis, and Elle Lewis.

The Forest City FFA Test Plot just got a little brighter with the addition of four solar-powered automatic spotlights which light up the sign at night. Little touches like these make a big difference. The lights were the idea of Principal Ken Baker.

The Ag Tech 2 class has been learning about soils, landscapes, and slopes. Pictured are Spence Jefson, Jack Holland, Max Aitchison, Wyatt Bertram, and Shayne Pedersen who are measuring the rise and run of a hillside to find the classification of the landscape.
|
The test plot meets the classroom as Nevaeh Stevenson, Grant Wooge, and Chase Sorenson do some yield estimates on the eight different corn varieties the FFA chapter is growing. The average estimated yield was calculated at 200 bushels an acre, the corn will be harvested by Adam Lackore later this fall and sold at Farmers Co-op Association (FCA). The funds will be used to support Forest City FFA activities during this school year.
