Pool News
Hours:
NORTH
10am - 8pm Daily

12noon - 8pm Monday - Friday
11am - 8pm Saturday and Sunday
- Please remember. Our pools are family-friendly. Foul language seems to be running rampant, especially by the teen and pre-teen set. Parents, please remind your independent swimmers to not use offensive language while at the pools. Pool patrons, especially young children, do no appreciate having to listen to the language! If it becomes a problem, the offender(s) will be asked to leave the pool for the day. Appropriate clothing and bathing suits are also appreciated.
- Please note: The Forest Lakes Swim Team will take three swim lanes at the south pool on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5-7pm for evening practices. The pool is still open to all residents during this time.
- Swim Team home meets are June 10, June 17 and July 1st. The South Pool will close at 3:30 these days.
- Early Morning Swim will being on Tuesday, June 9th at the South Pool. Hours are 6:45-7:45am. It will continue on Thursdays from 6:45-7:45am and Saturdays from 9:30-11 where you will have two lanes available while the swim team practices. Swimmers 16 and over only please.
- If you are planning a small party at one of our pools, it is important that you please call the FLCA office at least a week prior to the date of your event. Guest limit is set at 20 guests, wristbands may need to be issued, guest list and prepayments are required. Please remember that Independent Swimmers can only bring in two guests per visit. Adults/family accounts are limited to no more than 10 guests per visit (unless pre-approved with the FLCA office). All guests are expected to follow the pool rules and leave when their host leaves. Still haven't updated your Membersplash Account from last summer? You'll need to do this if you want to use the pools. Updates include adding or deleting residents in your household, updating pictures of young children, and update those swimmers who are rising 6th graders to "Independent Swimmer". Once this is done (if indeed you had some updates) then agree to the 2026 Pool Rules. This tells us you've updated your account and the FLCA office staff will, in turn, approve your submission as long as it matches our records we have on file. This "approval" time does not happen instantaneously, but we get to it as soon as possible! If you are leasing a home, a current lease must be on file with the office in order for you to be approved. 8:30-9:30 - AGES 6-9 BEGINNER LEVEL $124 two weeks
9:30-10:30- AGES 10-12 BEGINNER-ADVANCED BEGINNER LEVEL $124 two weeks
10:30-12:00- AGES 13-18- HIGH SCHOOL-INTERMEDIATE LEVEL $238 two weeks
Camps are two-week sessions. You can sign up for one week if it fits into your summer vacation and other schedules better.

MOBILE DMV - Back in Forest Lakes
Thursday, June 25th 9am - 4pm
The Mobile DMV will be at the Pavilion on Thursday, June 25th from 9am - 4pm. Visits will be by appointment only - appointment registration will go live two weeks before. Invasive Plant of the Month
Japanese Stiltgrass
Brought to the US in the early 1900s as packaging for Chinese porcelain, the massive spread of Japanese Stiltgrass is what sparked my concern about in invasive plants in Forest Lakes. Escaping its packaging over 100 years ago in Tennessee, Stiltgrass is now found over the whole east coast and as far west as Texas. Now it’s taking over the areas behind Spring Ridge and it is driving me crazy!
Japanese Stiltgrass is an annual that reproduces only by seed, but since each plant carries between 100 and 1000 seeds that are viable for 3-5 years, it can quickly take over a forest floor and suffocate native species. It has been shown to change soil chemistry, thereby reducing biodiversity, accelerate carbon cycling, thus depleting the carbon pool in forests, and it reduces native tree seedling numbers and size. Multifaceted destruction!
Mechanical and chemical methods can be used to control Japanese Stiltgrass, though perhaps my favorite method, at least by name, is “flame weeding”. For practical purposes in Forest Lakes, though, mechanical control is likely the best. Japanese Stiltgrass is easy to pull by hand, though its pervasiveness will make this difficult. That said, low cutting with a mower, or, better yet, a string weeder, before flowering can be very effective. (Once flowers are visible many seeds will mature even if the plants are mowed or pulled.) Ideal pulling or cutting time is between June and August. Herbicides can work as well, but that can be complicated.
Things you can do:
1. Cut, pull, or mow Japanese Stiltgrass on your yard or nearby areas.
2. Join the Forest Lakes Invasive Plant group (FLIP). Email John Oliver for details at johndoliver@comcast.net and join some invasive workdays.

FOURTH FRIDAY, June 27th

Adult-only happy hour(s) by the pool! Bring your own drink and a snack to share! Please NO GLASS! Forest Lakes will provide soft drinks, mixers, water and baskets of chips for dipping. NEW THIS YEAR: We are asking for residents to host the next two Fourth Fridays on July 24 and August 24th. A host could be a neighborhood, a group of friends, a couple or just you! Continuing our tradition of a good ol' fashion 4th of July pool party! Music, games and some prizes! Don't forget the belly flop contest!! Please refrain from bringing outside guests - this is a highly attended event and we need room for our residents! Fingers crossed we have good weather, otherwise we'll have to cancel. Refer to website if weather is questionable.

Top Dog of the Month
Meet Max
Max is a 135 pound, 8 year old Newfoundland.
A proud resident of the Springridge neighborhood, Max can be found making his nightly rounds around the circle each evening. Well, at least that's the plan. More often than not, his walk includes several strategically placed lie-downs along the way. Max firmly believes that every good stroll should feature plenty of rest stops.
Like many Charlottesville locals, Max thrives among vineyards and farmers markets. A natural celebrity, Max happily accepts pets, admiration, and compliments as he prances from one admirer to the next. One thing you'll never catch him doing at a vineyard or farmers market? Lying down.
Max's best friend is Monkey, the white cat next door. Together they're quite the duo.
If you see Max around, be sure to say hi. Trust us, you can't miss him... and he'd be disappointed if you tried.
