MOBILE DMV - Back in Forest Lakes

The Mobile DMV will be at the Pavilion on Thursday, September 25th 9am - 4pm. Visits will be by appointment only - appointment registration will go live two weeks before (anywhere between Sept 9th and 11th....) Deer Discussions Continue

Discussions and decision-making regarding deer culling in Forest Lakes are still ongoing. The next step will involve bringing in a qualified expert to evaluate our landscape and identify potential areas for managed hunting. Following

this assessment, we will hold a community-wide Q&A session to provide residents with the opportunity to learn about the process and ask questions. After the session, a vote will be conducted to determine whether or not to move forward with the culling plan. This vote will most likely be included in the annual meeting packet which is mailed to all homeowners in December.

Construction at the South Entrance, and Beyond

Navigating Forest Lakes South Just Got Trickier

Be prepared for an obstacle course when entering or exiting the South entrance of Forest Lakes! Road construction is ongoing and expected to continue throughout September. Please drive with extra caution—especially after dark.

Changes around the Teakwood Area

The landscape around the Teakwood neighborhood is also undergoing noticeable change. Significant clearing has taken place on former farmland behind Hollymead and parts of Teakwood Cove to make way for the new Holly Hills neighborhood. In addition, a temporary easement has

been cleared through the common area behind Birchcrest Lane to allow for the installation of a sewer line serving Holly Hills. There's a lot happening! The FLCA office strives to keep those residents affected by these changes update when

we receive information to share.

IN the PINK!

In the Pink tennis tournament, benefiting Martha Jefferson/Sentara women's health will be held at the North courts on Saturday October 4th, 9-12. For information, contact Maggie at mleary1@comcast.net

An In The Pink Boutique, Rosy Recycle, of gently used tennis apparel will be held at the Poolhouse on Saturday, September 27th from 10-3, also benefiting Martha Jefferson/Sentara women's health.

SHRED DAY and BULK PICK UP

Spring Shred Day has been scheduled for Friday, October 10th from 10am - 1pm in the FL North parking lot. Please remove all binders and clips from your papers. You may stay with your items to be shredded or simply leave them with the operators.

Spring Bulk Pick up is scheduled for Saturday, October 11th. Please have your items out on your curb the night before. For details on what will and will not be collected, please click HERE.

Its Fall - But the Yardwork Continues

Now is a great time to take a look around the outside of your house and see what needs to be done before the colder weather sets in. Overgrown bushes, wayward vines growing up houses, beds - weeding and mulching, mailboxes and posts, and power washing are all things to look at. Fall is the best time to overseed your lawn - you'll be glad you did in the spring!

Remember, please do not rake or pile leaves, branches or sticks onto common area (or in your yard!). GFL will take up to 10 bags of yard waste per pickup. Sticks need to be cut down into 3' lengths and bundled for easy handling.

SCOOTERS and BIKERS REMINDER

Another reminder to all scooter riders and bikers - walkers ALWAYS have the right-of-way on our paths. You must stop and get off the path if there is a walker ahead of you and let them pass. If you are passing a walker from behind, please give them some warning - a loud "passing on your right" would be helpful. Proceeding slowly off the path and around the person(s) you are passing. THANK YOU!

INVASIVE SPECIES CORNER

Invasive Plant Presentation – Tuesday, September 9th 7:00pm in the Pavilion. 

Want to learn about invasive plant species and what you can do to help control them? Lauren Taylor, Executive Director of the Blue Ridge Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM), will be giving a presentation. Forest Lakes Invasive Plants (FLIP) volunteers will also be available to let you know how you can get involved in preserving our wooded spaces and your property.

The FLIP volunteer group continues to grow. We have outlined common areas for “stewards” to lead efforts in, attended a PRISM-hosted presentation on how HOAs are tackling invasives, and coordinated with Glenmore’s invasives lead and the Loudon HOA alliance to obtain their best practices. Some of our members have also been tackling invasives individually. The task is daunting (and growing), so we’re still looking for volunteers…any assistance helps! Contact John Oliver (johndoliver@comcast.net). More info on invasive plants is available at https://blueridgeprism.org/.
