Todd's Corner

The traditions that have been created over time at HVC are truly very unique. Some are program related: camp songs, Fun Day, skits at campfires, the Rodeo Queen, camp dances, the Regatta, Friendship Dinner, the list goes on ... Other traditions relate more to family and prior connections to HVC.

We now have more and more current campers that have ties to camp through family members that attended HVC in the past. They may have parents that attended camp as a camper or staff member, Aunts, Uncles and some that had Grandparents that were former HVC participants.

We also always have a number of current staff members that were former campers at HVC themselves. This year the number of former campers on the staff is at an all time high! I am always amazed when former campers contact the camp office and let me know they are interested in working at HVC. Of course my first response is usually: "thatʼs nice ... but I donʼt think you are quite old enough yet!". They then let me know that they are now college students and are indeed old enough to be on the HVC staff. After my initial shock of realizing how time flies ... I send them the staff application, arrange interviews, etc.

It is great to have former campers that want to return to HVC. They have a keen sense of what HVC is all about and want to return as staff members to pass along the traditions and experiences they had when they were campers!

See you this summer!

Session Space

Our 2nd session has filled for both boys and girls with waiting lists for each. We do still have space for boys in the 1st and 3rd sessions and very limited space for girls - so sign up soon if you havenʼt already! If you are on the waiting list for 2nd session and you would like to reserve a space in the 1st or 3rd sessions as a back up plan please contact us asap. You can register for the 1st or 3rd sessions on the HVC website: www.hvc-wa.com or you can print a registration form on the website

if you prefer to register by mail.

Remember you can save $50.00 off of your fee for each new camper you recruit for the coming summer - so spread the word about the HVC experience! We will look forward to receiving your registration soon. Please be in touch if you have any questions.

Open House

The annual HVC Open House is scheduled for this coming Saturday, June 1st  from 10am to 3pm. There will be tours of camp and an opportunity to meet the McKinlays and some of the staff for the coming summer. Enjoy some coffee, tea, kiskies and fresh homemade cookies made by our Head Cook Steve Stimpson. This will be a very informal event so dropping by any time between 10am and 3pm is fine.

The weather is supposed to cooperate, however, it has been damp at camp recently so bringing waterproof footwear is a good idea as the grounds will probably still be a bit wet! For families that are attending HVC this coming summer there were directions to camp included in the Parent Mailing. Bring a picnic lunch if you like. Please contact the camp office by phone or e-mail if you have any questions. Hope to see you there!

Want a horse next year?

HVC once again owns all of its horses (we leased some of them for awhile) so we will be looking to place them in good homes during our off-season (late August of 2013 through mid June of 2014). We have had a few HVC families providing fantastic homes for some of our horses this year - we want to thank them very much for helping out.

The arrangement is a "Care Lease" that involves providing a pasture and shelter (this can be on your property or a boarding situation) and general care for the horse while in your possession. Of course you can ride the horse as often as you like! This can be a good way to take care of a horse without making the purchasing commitment. It can also be a lot of fun and benefit camp at the same time. If this is something that interests you at all please be in touch and we can talk in more detail.
