In This Issue: The word of the month - Unity

(VC)Bynum Arts promotes Unity as we Celebrate Women's History Month

March is Women’s History Month, and the 2025 theme, “Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations,” beautifully reflects the collective strength, unity, and influence of women who have shaped the minds and futures of generations through education, mentorship, and leadership.

We embody this spirit - empowering artists and fostering an inclusive space where women can express themselves through the arts. Dance has historically served as both a means of cultural preservation and a tool for activism from the expressive choreography of Katherine Dunham, Martha Graham, and Alvin Ailey to the boundary-breaking work of modern artists such as Camille A. Brown.

Let's reflect on the contributions of women in the arts and beyond to inspire the next generation. Let's celebrate together!

Good Bye Friend, Dr. Maxine Buie Mimms

Dr. Maxine Mimms was a trailblazer in Education and founder of the Tacoma Campus of Evergreen State College. VCBynum Arts was honored to participate in her Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 8 with over 200 of Dr. Mimm's dearest friends. A perfect moment for Women's History Month.

Sawubona is a beautiful Zulu phrase that translates to “I see you!”

Let's acknowledge each other’s humanity while promoting unity.

(VC)Bynum Arts & Education, in collaboration with Bellevue College Umoja Scholars and AARTH, invites you to the Sawubona Festival! This day of celebration will feature live performances of dance, music, and poetry, vendors, food, and a Q&A panel of community members. It's FREE to attend, and all are welcome.
