James Baldwin London 1968 film + Horace Ove double bill plus Q&A. 19 January 2019
Baldwins Negro:
In light of the new film of James Baldwin’s novel 'If Beale Street Could Talk', we repeat Baldwins 1968 lecture at the West Indian students centre in Earls Court, London. Accompanied by the comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory, Baldwin discusses, among other things, what it means to be black in America, comparing it to the experience of the British black community.
Black Safari:
For years there have been white expeditions to deepest Africa. In this parody of such explorers and documentary films, an African expedition travels along the Liverpool to Leeds canal in search of Britain’s heart. The intrepid explorers examine the quaint customs of the natives, delve into their folklore and record for posterity an exotic but fast-vanishing culture. Tickets
