Formation for Adults

Sundays at 8:45 a.m. in the parish hall

During this Season of Creation, we will be celebrating our own creativity. All materials will be supplied. Join us in the parish hall as we write, draw and celebrate all of our creativity!

  • 9/10—Celebrating Creativity Poetry Workshop: We will be writing poetry (yes, you can!) with guest presenter Maggie Anderson, an excellent poet and experienced teacher. You will have a chance to write for yourself and loosen up that creative gift.

  • 9/17—Celebrating Creativity Drawing Workshop: You will have the chance to draw (yes, you can!) with guest presenter Susan Johnson. She specializes in encouraging people to express themselves in creating mandalas.

  • 9/24—Parish Weekend Retreat, no Adult Formation will take place.

  • 10/1—Celebrating Creativity Intergenerational Sing-Along: Chris Moser and Brenda Lloyd and other song leaders along with John Yntema on guitar. We will be singing old favorites, maybe a new song or two and some rounds.

Following up on our Season of Creation, we will offer two other classes as we reflect on how we live our commitment to creation care.

  • 10/8—Eating the World: Formation, Consumption, and Ethics: Though scripture and science agree that humans must eat to survive and thrive, what do they say about how to eat? Join guest presenter Rabbi Jonathan Crane for this interactive session which draws from ancient religious wisdom, medieval art and philosophy, and cutting-edge science, to think afresh about how to consume the world today that best exemplifies our core convictions.
  • 10/15—Drawdown: Reducing our Impact on the Earth: Led by guest presenter Dr. Dabney Dixon, this workshop reviews the 20 high impact Drawdown Georgia solutions for cutting Georgia’s carbon impact by one-third by 2030 and will focus on the steps that congregations can take to engage with specific solutions. Congregations learn about practical actions for reducing their carbon impact and the ways they can advocate for policies related to these solutions.
