Former ASIP President Stanley Cohen Receives Coveted 2018 Golden Goose Award
Dr. Stanley Cohen received a Golden Goose Award on
Thursday, September 13, 2018 for his discovery and identification of cytokines. 
The seventh annual Golden Goose Award ceremony was held at the Library of Congress.  
Dr. Cohen was nominated by ASIP members
Meera Hammed and Mark E. Sobel. 
About the Golden Goose Award:  
The Golden Goose Award honors scientists whose federally funded work may have been considered with skepticism when first conducted, but has resulted in significant benefits to society.
In 2012, a coalition of business, university, and scientific organizations created the Golden Goose Award, conceived as a counterpoint to criticisms of basic research as wasteful federal spending
such as the late Sen. William Proxmire’s Golden Fleece Award. 

The Golden Goose Award recognizes federally funded, silly sounding research award that has made an impact on our society.
