FORMER NBA2K LEAGUE PLAYER, SHOCKEY, WINS RICK BARRY NBA2K20 INVITATIONAL
4/13/2020 - Phoenix, AZ - In celebration of North American Collegiate League (NACL) Brand Ambassador Rick Barry's Birthday, NACL held a NBA2K20 Invitational Tournament. Those invited competed for the $100 first place prize. Among those who competed were former Nets Gaming NBA2K League players, Shockey and iiTzChas, and Long Island Nets NBA G League player Devin Cannady joined by NACL NBA2K20 regular fatjohnw1ck.
The first round featured fatjohnw1ck couldn't find his typical shots and instead found himself with an early exit, losing 2-1 to Chicago Radio DJ Rodney "HotRod" Washington. Domingo13Brown, iiTzChas, and Shockey all defeated their first round opponents in 2 games.
In the second round, there were closer games as the two professional NBA2K League Players clashed. Both Shockey and iiTzChas showcased their skills by calling plays to counter each other. In the end, Shockey came up top, but the games were close enough to go to either side. On the other side of the bracket, Rodney "HotRod" Washington lost to Domingo13Brown in a close matchup.
Domingo13Brown met Shockey in the finals as the underdog as he faced off a professional NBA2K player. In the first game of the finals, Domingo kept a steady lead as his Milwaukee Bucks dominated Shockey's Houston Rockets with sheer size. As the game went along though, Shockey made some adjustments, forced missed layups and turnovers, and took his first lead in the game as time winded down in the 4th quarter. In the end, Shockey completed his comeback with a dagger 3-pointer, taking Game 1 of the finals. For Game 2, both competitors landed star studded teams through the NACL team randomizer. Shockey chose to go with the Brooklyn Nets and Domingo chose to go with the LA Clippers. Both players didn't back down as they went head to head. The difference in play styles and player usage decided the game, as Domingo played both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard without rest, while Shockey rotated Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving throughout the game. When it came to the 4th quarter, Shockey's stars were rejuvenated while Domingo's stars seemed to be burnt out.
Shockey took home the NACL Rick Barry Invitational Champion Title, going 6-0 against tough competition throughout the tournament.
NACL's next tournament is the Janus Esports International FIFA tournament on Sunday, April 19, 2020, where teams from Central and South America will compete online in a FIFA 20 exhibition. Tune in on twitch.tv/nacollegiateleague to view this exciting international tournament!
