Forming Faith in the Outdoors
Summer 2019 is an excellent time for all ages to form their faith by participating in an experience that takes them away from the normal rhythm of life to connect with God through community that celebrates the outdoors. Kamp Kaleo in Burwell, NE, invites kampers of all ages to explore Peace Works -- an opportunity to learn about a different culture's word for and expression of peace each day. Placerville Camp and Retreat Center in Rapid City, SD offers opportunities all summer long to work, play and pray together, so that we become bearers and sharers of the Gospel’s Good News. This will be their 99th season and they are gearing up for their 100th anniversary next year! Pilgrim Heights Camp and Retreat Center in Montour, IA is under new management and excited about its summer camp season with some improvements to cabins including some air conditioning! Christian Camp and Conference Center -- run by the UCC's sister denomination, the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ -- in Newton, IA offers camps for all ages including family and grandparent camps. The Iowa Conference UCC offers you an opportunity to bicycle with its fun and faithful team through the hills of Iowa during RAGBRAI!

This is truly an experience of supportive, friendly and fun community! Read a reflection about RAGBRAI being a "Church on Wheels" from one of last year's riders.
Why Camp?
Ever wonder why camp seems to be so effective at forming the faith of young people? So did Jake Sorenson at the Effective Camp Research Project. After looking at 30 church camps in the U.S. and Canada, they've learned that five key components make camp effective (in no particular order):

  1. Camp is relational.
  2. Camp is participatory.
  3. Camp is different than home.
  4. Camp is a safe place.
  5. Camp is faith-based.
