FBEF named a Beneficiary of Fluor Care’s Annual Charity Golf Event | |
Each year, Fluor Cares hosts its Golf for Greater Houston charity golf tournament to support Houston-area charities. The Fort Bend Education Foundation is honored to be among the five 2023 beneficiaries of the event that raised $161,000, thanks to event sponsors and supporters. From the amount raised, the Education Foundation received $27,750. Other tournament beneficiaries include: Anchor Point , B.I.G. Love Cancer Care, CASA de Esperanza and The Sanctuary Foster Care Services. To date, Fluor Cares has donated more than $3,229,000 to local Houston-area charities to support their missions and services to the community. | |
FBEF staff help celebrate museum installation | |

The Fort Bend Education Foundation (FBEF) was represented at the recent ribbon cutting ceremony marking the installation of the Fluor African American Pioneers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture and Math (STEAM) Traveling Museum at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds. FBEF Executive Director Brenna Cosby joined Barbara Jones, Fluor’s Senior Manager of Community Relations and Public Affairs and curator of the traveling museum; Fort Bend County Commissioners Dexter McCoy (Precinct 4) and Grady Prestage (Precinct 2), and other officials in celebrating the occasion. Fort Bend ISD Student Leadership Cohort members assisted Fluor Cares volunteers in setting up the museum exhibits prior to the opening event.

Change Your Life with Literacy
Holley Elementary students are benefitting from a teacher grant Salma Yousef received to fund her “Change Your Life with Literacy” project. Using headphones and lap desks, the students are honing English language skills by listening to audiobooks, creating read alouds and engaging in other literacy prompts.

Computer Maintenance & Networking students at the Reese Career and Technical Center are Geeking Out with Computer Building Kits, thanks to a $3,059 FBEF school site grant awarded to teachers. The students use various parts (motherboards, CPUs, graphics cards, memory modules and network adapters) to build fully functional computers and install operating systems, while gaining career skills. | |

Measuring Dissolved Oxygen in the Lab
Due to a $1,280 FBEF teacher grant, Travis High School AP Environmental Science students are benefiting from the purchase of optical dissolved oxygen sensors. The tools help students understand how each component of an ecosystem contributes to the chemical conditions of the surrounding environment.
