Fort Bend Education Foundation Electronic Newsletter - August 2023

We are back again and ready to present a great line-up of fundraising events, awards and gifts to benefit our Fort Bend ISD teachers and students! We kicked off the year by presenting 300 gift bags to our new teachers at the New Teacher Orientation. It’s always refreshing to see excited teachers prepare for a new school year!

Next up is our annual Back to School Scramble golf tournament on September 11! The event is sold out, but you can read ahead on how you can still participate. This is our first official event of the school year, and we’re always happy to see new and returning faces!

If you aren’t aware, we raised $769,574 last school year to fund grants to teachers and schools, new teacher gifts, professional development opportunities, pass-through grants and the Be a Bright Light for Homeless Students campaign. We’re looking forward to seeing the funded grants in action and what our backing has provided for students. In fact, you can read about our featured grant from Kempner High School in this newsletter.

Spotlighting Kempner High School

Be You, Be Still (A Calming Space for All)

As an added bonus for students this year, Kempner High School’s counseling team transformed their office into a space for students to use when they’re not in class. The team received $4,992.46 to fund their school site grant, Be You, Be Still (a calming space for all). They purchased Fiber Optic Corner Shower Lighting, a Sensory Room Aromatherapy Bundle, round bean bag chairs and soft seating for the space. The new space also includes sand trays, journals, self-reflection books and stress manipulatives. The space helps students self-regulate when they are over-stimulated, angered or stressed. The peaceful environment will help increase academic achievement, decrease undesirable outbursts and have students leave calm and renewed.

The Back to School Scramble golf tournament is SOLD OUT, but you can still participate by sponsoring a hole or donating swag bag items and/or an item for the live auction.
