Spotlight on Grants In Action!

Malala Elementary's "I Lava Ukuleles!"

Musicians are in the Making at Malala Elementary! Given a $1,486 teacher grant, the school purchased 28 Makala Soprano ukuleles for students to use in music class. The students apply their music theory knowledge while mastering the instrument. They have learned chord progression and individual notes, performance etiquette and have gained show-ready confidence in performing in an ensemble. With enough practice, the students will also write their own ukulele songs through guided improvisation!

Positive Behavior Support Board Games at Fort Settlement Middle School

Thanks to a $1,448 school site grant to fund “Positive Behavior Support Through Board Games,” Fort Settlement Middle School students are being rewarded for continual positive behavior with Friday Game Time during lunch. The school’s library is now stocked with various board and card games that students can check out during lunch. Students can choose to play Uno, Connect Four, Sorry, checkers, chess and other games. The students are improving their social and competition skills through the program.

PEP: It Takes a Village Conference supports Parenting Students

With its $20,000 Education Foundation grant, the Fort Bend ISD PEP (Pregnancy Education and Parenting) program provides parenting students with the support they need. The program provides parenting students with essential baby items (such as car seats, bassinets, diapers, etc.). The program also hosts a PEP conference, where students take part in breakout sessions and receive parenting tips, access to vendors, and encouragement from guest speakers to continue their education while navigating the challenges of parenthood.
