FBEF joins Business Partners in helping Aldridge ElementaryStart Proud!

You never know what the new school year will bring. Just ask teachers at Allen Aldridge Elementary! Thanks to Fort Bend Education Foundation business partners Office Depot-Store 416 in Sugar Land and Boise Paper, Aldridge teachers received a special back-to-school surprise as part of the Start Proud! Program! Each teacher enjoyed a shopping spree for classroom supplies, giveaways and a to-go lunch! Office Depot donated $10,000 to support the cause and Boise Paper matched that amount, making the total in-store credit awarded to Aldridge Elementary $20,000! The school is among only 10 Title I schools across the country to benefit from the program this year.

GRANTS IN ACTION

spotlighting Travis High School and Sartartia Middle School

Awarded a FBEF school site grant, the Travis High School counselors created a “Zen Den: A Safe Space for Students” to support students’ social and emotional development. The space contains comfortable furniture, SEL posters and curriculum items, fidgets for calming and coloring items. The students can access the Zen Den when they feel overwhelmed or overstimulated due to life issues. By developing healthy coping mechanisms, the students can gain confidence, resolve conflicts, reach goals and increase academic achievement.

With funding for her school site grant, "Lights! Camera! Action!", Sartartia Middle School teacher Supriya Jha will spend the school year preparing students for future roles in broadcasting! Her class now has camera and broadcasting equipment (including cameras, microphones, tripods, memory cards and carrying cases) to support student learning. The students will hone their technical skills, while hosting, producing and editing their own broadcasting program, podcasts, interviews and other authentic works.

She brings over eight years of experience within the Foundation, where she began as Marketing Coordinator before advancing to Events Director and, most recently, Development Director. Read more!
