GRANT IN ACTION

spotlighting Adaptive P.E's FLaSH Fitness Winter Olympics

To provide an elevated P.E. experience for the most vulnerable and least mobile students, the district’s Adaptive P.E. team presented its FLaSH Fitness Winter Olympics. The two-day event included an opening ceremony parade, activity stations and a medal ceremony. With individual teacher grants and a $19,975 FBEF Founder’s Grant, the team purchased adaptive curling sets and hockey equipment, ceremony supplies and decorations, a snow machine and material to modify activities (ramps, level, and PVC pipes) to create activity stations. They also purchased 3D printers, laser cutters, circuit cutting machines, and other supplies to create Makerspaces. The 3D printers were used to make items for the sensory station (such as Olympic rings, snowboards, skis and ski boots). The overall event provided a unified learning experience for both FLaSH and General Education students by stimulating them in ways beyond typical patterns.
