Police vs. Resident Kickball Game
Many Fort Lincoln residents recognize the value of having positive relationships between the community and police department; now let's live our values. The Fifth District of the DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the officers who serve Fort Lincoln and surrounding areas, are providing entertainment for all ages including kids, featuring DJ 589. Police Lieutenant Garvin will lead the Police kickball team, and I'm organizing the Fort Lincoln resident team. Teenagers and adults are welcome to join the team. And everyone is welcome to simply come out to enjoy free food and entertainment. Please RSVP below TODAY so we can estimate attendees.

Back-to-School Supplies Giveaway this Saturday

Back-to-School Update. Mayor Bowser recently provided a detailed back-to-school update (online HERE). DC requires all students, staff, and visitors to wear a face mask on school grounds. For parents and guardians, remember to (1) complete Covid testing consent forms, (2) get all required immunizations, and (3) for children 12+, Covid vaccines are available.
Vaccinations.
-
For homebound residents who want to get vaccinated, call 1-855-363-0333 and DC Health will bring the vaccine to you. There also are vaccination sites all throughout the District.
-
On August 10, Mayor Bowser announced a vaccination requirement for all employees who work in agencies that report to the Mayor (approximately 32,700 employees) and encouraged independent agencies to adopt the requirement.
- By September 30, all healthcare workers in DC must receive at least the first dose of a vaccine.
Economic Recovery. The DC Council recently passed emergency legislation that phases out the eviction moratorium while extending certain protections. Ward 5 Councilmember McDuffie outlines the phased approach in the chart below. If you need assistance with past due rent or utility bills, look into the StayDC Program.

Commodore JB Drive Traffic Safety
|
|
Literally since Day 1 as ANC last year, there's been an effort to enhance traffic safety, including on Commodore JB Drive. Today, after additional back-and-forth with the DC Department of Transportation (DDOT), the speed bumps were painted and completed. Because of the steep hill near the park and Wesley House building, standard traffic calming measures are not feasible. However, DDOT has announced its intention to install a speed camera at the top of hill.

Thanks for Supporting Neighbors
|
|
It takes a village! During the recent water advisory, thanks to everyone who helped distribute water to senior buildings and other residents. Councilmember McDuffie's office was instrumental in quickly facilitating the supply of bottled water to Fort Lincoln. And a special thanks to Fort Lincoln residents Parraize, Hattie, BoBo, Linda, Dana, Deborah, and Doris for helping to mobilize.

Community Center Project Update
|
|
In June, I hosted a virtual community meeting via Zoom with the Director of the Department of General Services (DGS) to seek an update on the status of renovating the park and building a new community center. DGS is tasked to build the center on behalf of the Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR), the lead agency. In short, the DGS Director stated that DGS/DPR are still figuring out the design. I will keep you posted on progress. The Zoom recording is online HERE.

Prior newsletters mentioned that Hook & Reel (a great seafood and bar spot) will fill the store site near Starbucks, and that Mezeh will fill the store site near Tropical Smoothie. As you've likely noticed, both stores are under construction. In addition, the most recent Site Plan indicates that Five Guys and The Good Feet Store will fill the end units near the UPS store. With the addition of those 4 stores, only 1 small store site remains to be filled.
