The Galatea OnLine Gallery

May 27, 2020
10th Edition

Like bits and pieces of scattered metallic objects, the art world is magnetically drawn to itself to come together to forge a new path. "They" have become "We". As galleries prepare to reinstate their schedules, they are re-making them concurrently. Galatea, along with other galleries affected not only by Covid-19, but by devastating flooding, must navigate a "long and winding road" back to some semblance of normality. As it has been said, the old normal no longer exists. We make new paths and consider the future an exploration.

When the coast is clear, you can be sure that we will be there continuing our lively exhibition schedule, and we will keep you updated.

In the mean time, be sure to visit our Artsy page at https://www.artsy.net/galatea-fine-art to view our May and June members' work.

Again, we appreciate all the support and love that you have shared with us over the last decade and look forward to moving beyond this with you. We are happy to work with you on a purchase of artwork shown here, or answer any questions you might have. In this time when artists of all genres are struggling to keep their practice going, your support is especially valued.

For sales inquiries , please contact Marjorie Kaye at marjoriegalatea@gmail.com . Our artists will be happy to ship the work to you at a cost to be determined.

To all , and in particular the SOWA community, artists of all kinds, and those that support us, we are strong and will survive. May all blessings, health, happiness, strength, wisdom, art and love be our gift.

This piece by Shelley Loheed is a symphonic, energetic union of opposites. In the midst of a very organic rendering sprung from emotive, seemingly chaotic beginnings emerges an almost mechanical sensibility of spacial interconnectedness. The forms are reminiscent of artifacts; those of the future left as references for the past.

Shelley Loheed, At the Edge , Ink, Pencil and Acrylic, 30 x 24 inches, 2020, $1,100.00
Cynthia Maurice not only renders the flower form, but also injects "flower-ness" into the senses. One can feel the bud seeking out the sunlight. This image is passionately drawn; the calculation is in the existence of the flower itself, being a prime example of the sacred geometrical essence in all things.

Cynthia Maurice, Roadside Weed , Lithograph, 30 x 22 inches, 2017, $400.00 (framed)
This tree sits in a desolate landscape, seemingly forgotten. Its stance is skewed, as if about to perform a danse macabre. It seems impossible to believe that with time, life will reach out to the branches; the sap will run through the bark, the sun will warm the tree, and the greenery will return.

Jane Paradise, Lone Tree, Fort Hill, Eastham , Archival Pigment Print, 19 x 13 inches, 2020, $395.00
This painting by Nora Rosenbaum makes the depiction of an island seem rare; the light and form of this work suggest an otherworldliness, as if it were the product of the artist's dream world. Hazy and sunlit at the same time, it is a refuge for a moment, an invitation to contemplate.

Nora Charney Rosenbaum, Island , Oil and Sand on Copper, 12 x 36 inches, 2019, $1,800.00
This painting by NIva Shrestha has a humorous, almost carnival-like quality to it. The buildings seem to stand alone in a sunwashed, dream-like atmosphere. The artist plays with shadows and light; the buildings are treated as if they were pure form, and the deliberate juxtaposition of these angular forms create a Mondrian-like sensibility.

Niva Shrestha, Inn on the Harbor , Oil Painting, 8.5 x 12 inches, 2018, $900.00
There is a certain livliness in the seemingly deserted beach. The sand shimmers with the sun making its way through the clouds. The clouds are reflected in the slight pools, a snapshot of the falling tide. There is life under the sand and in the water, and coolness in the air.

Eleanor Steinadler, Moody Beach, ME (#7) , Lambda Print (limited edition of 4),
24 x 36 inches (image size, framed): $1,295.00
12 x 17 inches (image size, framed): $545.00
Mystical, magical light and vision transform this tree into a a wizard; an onlooker, protector and guide. This image is an invitation to take a deep breath and to become immersed in the beauty that surrounds us.

Carol Wontkowski, Misty Morning , Photograph, 17 x 14 inches, 2020, $350.00
The angle in this painting by Jay Wu suggests an instability. This house is being magnetized into some unknown miasma. It becomes animated, seeking in the misty evening, for solidity and rootedness.

Jay Wu, Bay Street at Night , Oil Painting, 7.25 x 8.5 inches, 2018, $1,000.00
Lady Liberty is going through an emotional upheaval in this piece by Diana Zipeto. She is experiencing unprecedented difficulty, anguished and put upon. The skewed composition in this work creates a question: "Who are the Tired Masses"?

Diana Zipeto, Liberty VII - Oh Where Do We Begin? , Acrylic on Canvas, 40 x 30 inches,
2020, $3,200.00
