National Foster Care Month is observed in the United States during the month of May every year . It began with President Ronald Reagan in 1988. Since then, National Foster Care Month continues to be recognized and celebrated.

In honor of National Foster Care Month, the Coalition for Children, Youth & Families would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to foster parents, child welfare professionals, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, and other advocates of the community who help children and youth in foster care find permanent homes and connections.

There are many Foster Care Month events that are occurring throughout our state this month. One such event is the Youth Advisory Council’s third annual Hands Around the Capitol event . Full details can be found on the event page linked above or on the image below.

More information about getting started as a foster parent can always be found at FosterParentsRock.org --and be sure to check out the new "Champions" videos coming out starting in May! The first video is on the Foster Parents Rock website , as well as the Coalition's YouTube channel .
