We Asked Some of Our Sisters,

"What Do YOU Turn To... For Comfort, Hope & Peace During Stressful Times?"

Lets be honest, life can sometimes be, well, a bit overwhelming. With unease in the world, the holidays approaching, and endless To-Do lists, it's easy to feel a bit uneasy (alot). Focusing on the love and gratitude behind the craziness can help, but it's also important to remember that there are options for us to focus on when we face particularly stressful times or hardships.

Here Are Few of Their Favorite Suggestions

  • Write your feelings at that moment in a journal for 5 minutes
  • Sit quietly away from distractions for 10 minutes
  • Take a brisk 20-minute walk and spend time in nature
  • Practice deep breathing for one minute
  • Drink a cup of lavender or mint tea, smell the aromatherapy
  • Visit the beauty of Holy Spirit Retreat Center
  • Pray in our chapel or sit by the pond
  • Spend time with a pet
  • Detach for a day from social media, television, and phones
  • Spend quality time with loved ones
  • Listen to soft, instrumental music during your day
  • Be mindful of what stirs you - what is it? Write it down

Daily, say the Serenity Prayer:

"God, grant me the Serenity

To accept the things I cannot change.

The courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference."

-Reinhold Niebuhr

Celebrating 98 Years!

Sisters of Social Service of Los Angeles

November 16, 2024

"The main idea behind our community is love, love for one another, and love for those to whom we are sent in our mission. That is charity. If the basis of our entire life is love of God and charity to one another, then we will fulfill our vocation as Sisters of Social Service."

-Sr. Frederica Horvath, SSS, Foundress

on the occasion of her 50th Anniversary of Entrance, 1969
