Why Is The Village Hall Phone Ringing?

When does in-person absentee voting at Village Hall begin? Due to a recent 7th Circuit Court of Appeals Ruling, in-person absentee voting at Village Hall will begin on Tuesday, July 28 at 8:00 am (previously it was Monday, July 27). More election is information below.
When is the next brush chipper collection?
Brush will next be collected by Village crews next week (7/13/20). Brush should be placed in the parkway between the curb and the sidewalk.

Foundation Drain Disconnect Pilot Program:
|
|
The Village of Whitefish Bay is introducing a new pilot program in 2020 to reduce clear water flows into the Village sanitary sewer system from private home underground foundation drains. This 2020 pilot program will provide up to $5,000.00 per home for as many as 20 qualifying homes in the Village. This work will include a homeowner digging up and accessing their existing foundation drain system through their basement floor, installing a basement sump pump, and then providing a buried sump pump connection directly to the public storm sewer system.
For this pilot program the Village has identified a targeted area in the southern portion of the Village that is known to have higher than average levels of clear water entering the Village sanitary sewer system (highlighted blue on the map). Within that targeted area, many homes have direct access to a buried storm sewer pipe connection to the public storm sewer system. In addition, homes in other areas of the Village that have a buried storm sewer pipe connection to the public storm sewer system or are willing to install a buried storm sewer pipe connection may qualify as well.

LOCATION UPDATE: The Farmers Market will be at the Aurora Parking Lot (325 E Silver Spring Dr.) for the entire season.

Whitefish Bay Sidewalk Sale:
The Merchants of Whitefish Bay Sidewalk Sale is back July 17 and 18, 2020 on Silver Spring Drive. Stores will have different promotions, check out what is happening on our
Facebook Page for more details. Store hours vary by business. Yellow Wood will be hosting a scaled-down version of their annual adventure zone which will be open on Saturday, July 18 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Social Distancing and masks and are strongly encouraged (required by some businesses). Hand washing and/or sanitizer stations will be available in-stores and on the street. Thank you to Gerhard's Kitchen & Bath for opening their doors for customers to use their sinks inside and for providing the hand sanitizing stations on the street.

The North Shore Health Department (NSHD) is conducting a community survey to learn how the residents of the North Shore feel about the response of the NSHD to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We want to understand how you and other people living in the North Shore feel about how the North Shore Health Department has handled the COVID-19 pandemic so far. We hope to learn how you feel about the measures taken in Wisconsin and in the North Shore to stop the spread of COVID-19 and understand why you felt that way. We also hope to understand if we have effectively communicated with the public throughout the COVID-19 outbreak. Our goal is to learn how we can improve our response in future emergency situations.The survey is online and can be accessed with this link:

Request an Absentee Ballot:
Nearly 40% of Whitefish Bay voters have requested absentee ballots for the August 11 Election.
The Village of Whitefish Bay is urging ALL voters to request an absentee ballot for the August 11, 2020 Partisan Primary Election by mail. Voting through the mail reduces public contact with our poll workers.
Offices to be elected for the August 11, 2020 Partisan Primary Election election include: Representative in Congress, State Senator, Representative to Assembly, District Attorney, and Milwaukee County Clerk, Treasurer and Register of Deeds.
How to Request an Absentee Ballot by Mail: You may request a ballot online at
myvote.wi.gov or download an absentee ballot application under election information via our quick links section on our homepage;
www.wfbvillage.org. You also may request a ballot be mailed to you by
emailing the Village. Your request must include a copy of WI photo ID and be received no later than 5:00 pm on August 6, 2020.

2019 Annual Water Quality Report:
We're fortunate in Whitefish Bay to have excellent drinking water from the North Shore Water Commission.
The North Shore Water Commission, in cooperation with its member utilities, publishes a water quality report annually. The report is designed so that residents can clearly understand what’s in the drinking water and how to obtain additional information.

The North Shore Water Commission operates and maintains the Water Filtration Plant at 400 West Bender Road in Glendale as well as the Raw Water Pumping Station located in Whitefish Bay. The North Shore Water Commission is responsible for purifying and pumping potable water to its member utilities which include Fox Point, Glendale, and Whitefish Bay. Renewing Library Services: The library is preparing to begin Chapter 2 “6-feet & Mask Up @ WFBPL” for Renewing our Library Services. As we plan for next steps, here are the current library services we’re offering as part of our Chapter 1 “Grab and Go @ WFBPL.”
Hours - Curbside Pickup:

- Tuesday, Thursday- 2:30 pm to 7 pm

In-Library Browsing: Come into the library building to browse books, renew library cards, apply for a new card, or use the copier/scanner. No need to make an appointment; just stop by during our browsing hours. And thanks for protecting staff and other patrons by wearing your mask. (Masks are required and we can provide you with one if you don’t already have one.)
Library Computers Library computers are available for up to 1 hour per day twice per week by appointment. Please call the library to schedule and be sure to bring your mask with you to your appointment.

Glendale Silver Spring Drive Reconstruction Project begins July 13:
The City of Glendale is preparing to reconstruct Silver Spring Drive from the east side of the Port Washington Rd intersection to the west side of the Lydell Ave intersection. The construction does not include the intersections with Port Washington Rd, Mohawk Ave, or Lydell Ave. The construction project will include removal and replacement of the concrete pavement in phases to allow two-way traffic on Silver Spring Dr. at all times during construction.
While two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, certain turning movements may be restricted. Please pay attention to the traffic control barricades and signage as they will change throughout the project.

Join the Whitefish Bay Women's Club in July to donate blood and help save lives!
The Whitefish Bay Women’s Club (600 E Henry Clay) hosted the Versiti blood center at a blood drive on Wednesday, May 20. Approximately 38 people donated much needed blood. The next scheduled blood drive will be on Wednesday, July 22. For an appointment call 414-332-1570.
Due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19, there is an immediate need for blood donors to ensure a safe supply.

North Shore Health Department Highlights 6/30/20: Preventing Tick Bites
As the weather becomes nicer throughout the summer, it is important to be aware of ticks when enjoying the outdoors. The Fight the Bite! initiative from the Wisconsin DHS is working to spread awareness about mosquitoes and ticks as well as information about bite prevention.
In Wisconsin, ticks are mainly active from May through September, but the DHS emphasizes to be cautious of ticks year-round. There are many steps you can take to protect yourself from tick bites including the use of repellants on skin and clothing, wearing appropriate outdoor clothing, avoiding direct contact with ticks and checking for ticks after being outdoors.
If you do find a tick embedded on your body, here are some do’s and don’ts for removing it:
Do:
- Grasp tick with a narrow-bladed tweezers as close as possible to the skin.
- If tweezers are not available, use fingers shielded with tissue paper or rubber gloves.
- Pull upward and out with a firm and steady tension.
Don’t:
- Use petroleum jelly, a hot match, nail polish, or other products.
- Handle a tick with bare hands.
- Squeeze, crush, or puncture the body of the tick, which may contain infectious fluids.
- Twist while removing as this can cause the mouthparts to break off and stay in the skin.
