Miami Children's Hospital Foundation Board Member Ravneet Chowdhury donated $1 million after hearing cancer survivor Caroline Pallidine tell her story of overcoming her fear of baldness and becoming Bald, Brave, Beautiful at Miami Children's Hospital
Guests at the Diamond Ball had the opportunity to hear from 14-year-old cancer survivor Caroline Pallidine, who shared how she overcame her fear of baldness and became Bald, Brave, Beautiful at Miami Children's Hospital, thanks to a special visit by Armando "Pitbull" Perez in July. Miami Children's Hospital Foundation Board Member Ravneet Chowdhury was so inspired by Caroline's story that she immediately pledged a $1 million donation in the young girl's honor. The event also included a video salute from Pitbull and culminated with the induction of Gloria and Emilio Estefan into the Ambassador David M. Walters International Pediatric Hall of Fame. Revolutionary Cancer Treatment at Miami Children's Hospital Gives Little Girl Hope
Kelly Cruz and her mother Gioconda Vivas with Kelly's Miami Children's Hospital care team (from left): Miami Children's Hospital Interim Chief of Pediatric Surgery Dr. Cathy Burnweit; Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deise Granado-Villar; and Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Guillermo De Angulo.
Miami Children's Hospital's Cancer Center is making the news with a breakthrough surgery that could save an 8-year-old little girl's life. Kelly Cruz has been battling abdomen cancer since 2006 and doctors tried almost every treatment available, but there was one more option in Texas. Kelly was not able to leave Florida due to insurance issues so instead of giving up hope, Miami Children's worked with The University of Texas MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital to bring a revolutionary treatment to her in Miami. This has never been done on a child anywhere else! Kelly now has a much better chance and is doing well.
