Bee the Future of Education
This is the day!! The time has arrived!! Every year ADSOEF participates in a Fall Appeal that begins on National Philanthropy Day (November 15th) and runs through Giving Tuesday (this year, December 3rd). Funds raised during this appeal will support individual/classroom/community projects, grants, fellowships, and scholarships. In 2023, thanks to two $1,000 matching donors, almost $6,000 was donated during this time period. This year, one of those donors will once again match donated gifts up to $1,000. The amount you contribute will be doubled thanks to this generous supporter. Giving Tuesday is later this year, expanding the appeal campaign an extra week. Let’s make good use of the gift of time!
As of October 31, 2024, $1,914.83 has been donated toward the goal of $10,000.87. The Fall Appeal campaign is the perfect time to give that amount a major boost. You may have received a handy contribution form in the mail this week, or you can always click on the link below to print the form. Of course, donations can also be made online using the ADSOEF website. Donating in memory of or in honor of a special person in your life is a beautiful way to show gratitude and appreciation for that individual. The ADSOEF Fundraising Committee wishes to thank all who respond to this fundraising appeal. Let’s Bee the Future of Education!

The ADSOEF Board of Directors’ Approves
Two More Awards!
The Educational Services Committee is very excited to continue ADSOEF’s mission “to provide funding to serve charitable purposes relating to professional and personal growth of educators and educational excellence” by announcing two awards approved at the October Board of Directors’ meeting.
Congratulations to Carolyn Puckett, Alpha Delta, who sponsored Marlin Ellis’ Weightroom Improvement Project! The $500.00 award from the Individual/Classroom/Community Project Fund will help purchase bumper plates for the weightlifting equipment at the Washington Court House Schools’ weightroom facility. Marlin believes the new equipment will encourage more students to participate in the high school’s weightlifting class and the weightlifting clubs at the middle and high schools, which will lead to their improved physical fitness, health, and academic success.
Congratulations also go to Cindy Lawyer, Alpha Psi and the 2025 Biennial Seminar Coordinator! She was approved for a Lifelong Learning Fund grant of $1,010.00 for the 2025 Biennial Seminar. The award will cover the cost of one 56-passenger tour bus and the deposit for the Amish Heartland Group Tours. This grant will help defray the costs of the Biennial Seminar’s Amish Tour for all the OSO members who attend. Plan to be there from June 11-13, 2025!
Please look for photos and final reports in future newsletter editions!

Election Time for the Board of Directors of ADSOEF
Even though the actual election of directors of ADSOEF will not take place until next spring at the ADSOEF Annual Meeting, it is time to think about your role in the successful endeavors of ADSOEF. If you are presently a director whose term is expiring, please consider in what way you might be able to continue to serve ADSOEF. Experience always counts for something! If you have not been a director, perhaps it is time for you to carefully consider which of your talents will benefit ADSOEF. As a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, we all possess leadership skills and professional experiences that will qualify any of us to be a member of the Board of Directors!
This will be the first election under the new Bylaws. We will be electing three (3) directors for a two-year term starting in July 2025 and ending July 2027 and two (2) directors for a three-year term starting in July, 2025 and ending July 2028. The application form has been revised to reflect these choices. Applications are available on the ADSOEF website.

Emma Brown’s Student Teacher Story
2023-2024
In the fall of 2023, I completed my general education student teaching placement. I was placed at Otsego elementary school in Grand Rapids, Ohio. I was assigned a fourth-grade classroom and had 24 students in my homeroom. I had six students that were on IEPs and because of my degree and experience with intervention, I really enjoyed helping these students to grow and learn.
I also taught ELA to 24 students, as well as, science and social studies to 75 students. I could not have asked for a better experience. I was in a small rural school and got to know the entire staff pretty quickly. Everyone was kind and welcoming. I feel that I learned not only from my mentor teacher but from the rest of staff members as well. I felt that I could talk to any staff member and ask for help if I needed it. I was confident in feeling that I was doing a good job because of the interactions and feedback I received from my mentor teacher, the other staff members, and administration.
This school also came with two dogs! One was a therapy dog named Callie, who was a golden retriever and followed the guidance counselor around. Our other dog was a school facilitator dog. Her name was Dana and she was a black lab. I had never been in a school that had therapy dogs that were allowed to walk freely around the school building. The students absolutely loved having Callie and Dana around!
