A Word or Two from the Board…

With just a month and a half remaining, it’s time to put the finishing touches and complete the 2024-2025 fiscal year for ADSOEF.  Here are the most recent developments and possibly the final ones for the year:

  • Many thanks to all who participated and attended the recent virtual ADSOEF Annual Meeting on April 10, 2025, where ADSOEF celebrated many successes.  Be sure to view the YouTube video of the ADSOEF 2025 Annual Meeting.  Reports of the election, the ticket auction, and the contributions are in this issue of Foundation Matters.
  • An additional thank you to those who supported the ticket auction and contributed so generously during the 87th Birthday Luncheon at the OSO State Convention.
  • The Educational Services Committee received Board approval for two  Individual/Classroom/Community Project Fund Awards. Jacinta Bertone, Gamma Theta, was awarded a $500.00 grant for her South Elementary Hoop Club and Angela Stokes Miesle of Beta Eta, received a $500 grant for her NextGen Youth Artisan Market Project.
  • The Governance Committee continues its work revising required documents, hoping to finish and receive approval for all by the June 16 board meeting.
  • The OSO/ADSOEF Scholarship Committee has nearly finished their tasks for the year and is scheduled to meet on June 23 to prepare for their ninth year with ADSOEF.
  • Four dossiers were reviewed and evaluated for the A. Margaret Boyd Overseas Fellowship. Marilyn Slusser, ADSOEF Liaison, awaits confirmation from Mr. Kolsum of the Fulbright program regarding our 2025-2026 A. Margaret Boyd Fellowship recipient.

With warmest regards and respect,

The ADSOEF Board of Directors

Two New Project Grants Approved by the

Board of Directors!

The Educational Services Committee is delighted to continue ADSOEF’s mission “to provide funding to serve charitable purposes relating to professional and personal growth of educators and educational excellence” by announcing two awards recently approved by the Board of Directors.

Congratulations to Jacinta Bertone, Gamma Theta! She was awarded a $500.00 Individual/Classroom/Community Project grant for her South Elementary Hula Hoop Club. She purchased professional quality hula hoops so her fourth grade club members could learn new skills and design routines for a Memorial Day Parade performance.

Congratulations to Angie Stokes Miesle, Beta Eta! She was approved for an Individual/Classroom/Community Project grant of $500.00 to purchase easels and refreshments for her NextGen Youth Artisan Market Project. This will enable high school artists from Paulding County to display and sell their artwork during a November 2025 special event.

Be on the lookout for photos and final reports on the Weightlifting Equipment and the Hula Hoop Club Projects in the June and July Foundation Matters issues!

And the Winners are….

One of the key events at the 2025 State Convention was the ticket auction generously sponsored by ADSOEF's Fundraising Committee. The auction successfully raised $959.00, contributing to the committee's goal of $10,000.87 in celebration of the 87th anniversary of our state organization. We extend our gratitude to all who donated prizes and to everyone who participated in purchasing tickets for the auction…thank you!

Here are the twelve lucky winners:

Lauren Jewell Student Teaching Story

The Esther H. Strickland Student Teaching Grant played an important role in my success as a student teacher. By helping alleviate financial burdens, it allowed me to reduce my work hours, letting me dedicate more time to my students and classroom responsibilities. This newfound flexibility was invaluable, enabling me to delve deeper into lesson planning, creating engaging and innovative activities that catered to the diverse learning styles of my students. Additionally, the grant helped cover extra expenses, such as increased gas costs due to a longer commute to my placement school.

This financial support enabled me to be fully present in my student teaching experience, attending both nights of parent-teacher conferences without worrying about work commitments. By building strong relationships with parents and the school community, I have gained invaluable insights into the unique needs and challenges of my students, and how to help them succeed even more.

Furthermore, the grant allowed me to attend two essential workshops: Classroom Management and Understanding and Working with Difficult Students. These workshops equipped me with practical strategies and techniques to create a positive and productive learning environment. I learned how to effectively manage classroom behavior, establish clear expectations, and address challenging student behaviors in a constructive manner.

The Esther H. Strickland Student Teaching Grant not only supported my financial needs but also fostered my professional growth. By providing me with the time and resources to excel in my student teaching role, it has laid a strong foundation for a successful career in education. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to using the skills and knowledge I have gained this past semester to make a positive impact on the lives of my students.
