Signals of the ADSOEF Fall Season | |
|
Fall abounds in nature’s signals for us to acknowledge and appreciate. Signals invite us to look up, look outand tune in to our surroundings. Tuning in gives us permission to pause for a moment (or two) and then decide what needs to come next.
Fall is a seasonal feast for all our senses: the crunch of leaves; the roar of a football Friday night crowd; the crisp tartness of a Granny Smith caramel apple; and the welcomed relief of a chilled wind. Trees also begin to make a true showing of tuning in to the natural shift of the season, shaking off what is worth shedding, yet undeterred by its stripped-down minimalist appearance. Nature is one of life’s best teachers! She helps us to understand what we sometimes tend to forget…improving or adapting what we know is what makes us grow! Let’s follow nature’s lead. Let’s look to the trees and their changing leaves to tune in to what is worth shedding and what is worth keeping!
For ADSOEF, fall is our favorite season! We are tuning in, adapting/improving as we go in order to grow as a Foundation! Take a look at what we are looking up, looking out and tuning in to these past few weeks of September.

The 2025 Biennial Seminar is scheduled for June 11-13, 2025, in Amish country, Berlin, Ohio. Scheduled events include Amish Country Theater Show; Amish Heartland Tour; Amish speaker, Marcus Yoder; and of course, Amish food…just to name a few! DKG/Ohio members will learn the background and history of the Amish community with a great emphasize on their education, family values, and lifestyle. Further information to be shared by the Biennial Seminar Coordinator Cindy Lawyer in future editions of Foundation Matters.
-
FYI…interesting ADSOEF data. The Board of Directors volunteered 145 hours, and its committee members volunteered 62 hours for the month of August. A grand total of 207 volunteered hours were registered for August! As you can see ADSOEF is hard at work for all of you!
-
We welcome, invite, and encourage all to add your voice, your energy, your enthusiasm, your passion, your commitment to ADSOEF. We encourage your continued participation, appreciate your input, and truly value your ongoing and growing support of ADSOEF. To contact us go to adsoef.org.

Bee the Future of Education
The 2024-2025 Fundraising Campaign is now in full swing! Chapter presidents and ADSOEF liaisons are busily sharing the theme of Bee the Future of Education with their members and encouraging them to donate to the ADSOEF fund of their choice. The Fundraising Committee is excitedly preparing for the fall fundraising appeal that runs from National Philanthropy Day on November 15th through Giving Tuesday on December 3rd. With the help of two anonymous donors, last year’s campaign raised almost $6,000 during this time frame to help fund grants, fellowships, classroom/community projects, and scholarships. With Giving Tuesday being later this year, the campaign has been extended a week. Let’s make good use of the additional time for the future of education by contributing to one of the many ADSOEF funds!
The bar has been raised! The goal for this year is $10,000.87. It’s also important to remember this is the 87th birthday of OSO. So, when donating, just add an additional $0.87 to reflect the many years that our State Organization has been serving education in Ohio and throughout the world. As you contribute, you may wish to honor or remember a special person in your life. So far, the amount donated from July1, 2024, through September 30, 2024, stands at $1,009.87.
This is a good BEEginning, but much work is still ahead of us! Let’s join to Bee the Future of Education!

ADSOEF Needs You!!
Before we know it, the election of directors for ADSOEF will be upon us! Serving as a director for this wonderful organization is a privilege. Here are a few reasons you will want to consider applying for a director’s position:
- Opportunities for promoting our mission and purposes.
- Active role in assuring that the Foundation’s legal and ethical integrity is preserved.
- Serve as advocates for ADSOEF to Ohio chapters.
-
Assist in fundraising and thus assuring ADSOEF and its mission will be able to continue far into the future.
- Witnessing the funds of ADSOEF being used to enrich educational excellence.
Our Bylaws governing the election of directors have changed. We will be electing three (3) directors for a two-year (2) term starting in July 2025 and ending July 2027 and two (2) directors for a three-year (3) term starting in July 2025 and ending July 2028. This rotation of length of terms will allow for a smoother transition of directors.
We need your help to insure continued excellence in ADSOEF. Please join us by applying for a director’s position! You may apply for a two-year term or a three-year term. (Applications will be available on the ADSOEF website after October 30, 2024.)

A Message from Della Kartika Sari
Dear DKG Ladies
I hope this message finds you all in good health. I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the support you have given me during my journey to earn my PhD. I am especially grateful for the generous assistance provided through the A. Margaret Boyd Fellowship in 2022-2023. Marilyn Slusser and committee members, thank you for selecting me as one of the Fellowship recipients. I also want to personally thank you, Marilyn, for your constant presence, kindness, love, and friendship. I will always remember the after-dinner calls and the laughter we shared. May you be blessed abundantly.
As I approach the final semester of my coursework this fall, I am enthusiastically preparing for my qualifying exam in spring 2025. It is remarkable how swiftly two years have passed. Your support has been instrumental in enabling me to participate in academic conferences, publish my research, and conduct a pilot project. I am pleased to report the successful completion of my pilot project, which involved collaborating with Indonesian educators in five schools to explore classroom assessment as a relational practice. This research aims to emphasize the emotional dimensions of students' experiences and highlights that assessment should be a tool for facilitating learning and fostering connections rather than merely measuring abilities. I am excited about the impact this will have on their classrooms.
I also want to extend my sincere gratitude to the Gamma Phi chapter in Cincinnati for your endless friendship, sisterhood, and support for both my daughter and me. I fondly remember when she first arrived in Cincinnati and how you welcomed her with love and provided support for her school uniform and supplies. Your kindness truly touched our hearts and reinforced the idea that sisterhood is everlasting. Even after my graduation and return to Indonesia, I am committed to remaining a member of the Gamma Phi chapter. The lessons I’ve learned from all of you—compassion, hard work, and the empowerment of women educators—will always guide my professional and pedagogical values. Diana Haskell, our current president, thank you for being my mentor. You are the role model of a woman with leadership and wisdom.
Finally, ladies, words fail to fully convey the depth of my gratitude. Thank you once again for your unwavering support and encouragement. I am incredibly honored to be part of the DKG family. God bless you.
With warmest regards
Della Kartika Sari
