ADSOEF FUNDING THE FUTURE OF
EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION!

FROM YOUR FOUNDATION DIRECTORS

Hello, members!

In this issue, find stories from award recipients funded through ADSOEF.  A student teacher shares her various experiences in the classroom.  Feel the excitement as you read about STEM activities for children.  It is gratifying to read about the success of an overseas fellowship awardee studying at The Ohio State University.  These opportunities are possible because of your generous support.  You are appreciated!

Most DKG Chapters gather for their organizational meeting this month.  We can almost hear the chatter and laughter of friendship!  What will be your favorite program this year?  Who will be impacted by your service project?  Best wishes for an exciting, educational, and productive DKG year in 2022-2023.

Please contact us at adsoef.org if you have suggestions or questions regarding the Educational Foundation.

CIRCUITS FOR STEM EDUCATION

HOCKING HILLS CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

The Educational Services Committee is excited to share the final grant report from the latest Individual/Classroom/Community Project to be completed. Kristen Stimmel, Alpha Xi, and her colleagues applied for the funds to purchase STEM coding and building circuit kits for the Hocking Hills Children’s Museum. This exciting venture will be opening soon with these Snap Circuit kits at one station. Please read Kristen’s report.

Circuits for STEM Education

The Hocking Hills Children’s Museum is passionate about providing hands-on educational opportunities for the children in our community as well as the many visitors that visit our region.  As a group of early childhood educators in a rural community, our board saw a need to support the learning of our youth by engaging them in play as well as give parents the opportunity and resources to be part of their child’s learning.

By creating a Snap Circuit exhibit the museum hopes to bring science, technology, engineering, and math concepts to life through hands-on activities.  With STEM learning becoming more and more popular in school curriculums we also hope to support and enhance the learning of our nearby schools as well as become a destination for school visits.  We hope to continue to grow as a place of learning and fun for our community.  In the future we plan to create more STEM based learning exhibits to engage and support our community!

THANK YOU. . . . . .

The Alpha Delta State Ohio Educational Foundation Board of Directors would like to thank OSO’s Scholarship Committee, Nicole Burley, Delta Kappa; Lois Carter, Beta Alpha; Sue Loader, Alpha Psi; Danielle Sobczyk, Alpha Theta; and Marilyn Slusser, Chairman, Delta Kappa; for reading and ranking the A. Margaret Boyd Fellowship dossiers.  This work is a big help for the Educational Foundation.  This same OSO Scholarship Committee reads all of the OSO Scholarship applications and the Esther H. Strickland Student Teaching Grant applications, then recommends to the ADSOEF Board of Directions the monetary amount needed to fulfill the scholarships or grants for each year.  The work of this committee is essential for the Foundation to accomplish its goals.  Thank you to all donors for making the ADSOEF goals attainable.

A new semester is approaching, and I cannot be more excited! It is still hard to believe that a year ago I started this adventure, which is being one of the most enriching experiences of my life. Not only on an academic and professional level, but also on a personal level. I have met incredible people thanks to OSO-DKG and ADSOEF who have given me unconditional support and friendship. You have given me your time and love to give me an incredible experience during my stay in this country.

A MESSAGE FROM CARLEY DEREXSON

A 2022 ESTHER H. STRICKLAND GRANT RECIPIENT

From online instruction to mask mandates to no mask at all, student teaching has provided me the tools I did not expect I would need, but I am so grateful to include to my teaching toolbox.  I was blessed to have the same mentor teacher I had during my junior year.  My mentor teacher, Mrs. Rarick has supported and molded me into the person I am today.
