A word or two from your Board of Directors…
The ADSOEF Board of Directors look with great anticipation to 2024! It has been said, it is good to anticipate…good to open the door to hope and that feeling of I simply cannot wait. To anticipate means we, as a Board, have something to lean into and to talk about. Anticipation goodness helps to build in moments that glimmer with promise, plus has a way of adding wind to our sails (and to our mission and purpose). It is good to anticipate and as a board we are looking forward to and anticipating a promising and productive year in 2024. We anticipate and expect to:
- Continue to serve and work, openly and with transparency, with the OSO/ADSOEF membership by further advancing our mission and purpose of providing funding to serve charitable purposes related to professional and personal growth of our OSO/ADSOEF educators and uplift the educational excellence in Ohio’s communities.
-
Continue to support the fundraising campaign to grow the funding of excellence in education. Ladies would it not be amazing to help the Fundraising Campaign double their original goal of $8,600! Certainly a challenge and a goal for all of us to think about and work towards!
- Award numerous scholarships, grants, and fellowships in 2024.
- Make preparations for the annual ADSOEF Board Meeting on April 6, 2024, to be held at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grove City, Ohio.
-
Elect five directors on April 6, at the ADSOEF Annual Meeting. Remember the ADSOEF Director Electronic Applications are due by February 1, 2024, and can be found at adsoef.org. Apply today!
- See all of you at our annual Board meeting in Grove City on April 6, 2024, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Thank you for supporting ADSOEF! It allows us (you included) to collectively impact the future of education in Ohio.
With sincere gratitude,
The ADSOEF Board of Directors

Thank You for Planting Seeds for the Future!
The generosity of our Delta Kappa Gamma members throughout Ohio is amazing! The response to November’s fundraising campaign was simply overwhelming! Many thanks to all who opened their hearts and generously donated to ADSOEF in a united effort to promote the future of educational excellence. A special thank you goes out to the two anonymous donors who matched the individual giving up to $1,000 each. These two donors elevated the amount donated by our members to a higher level. Donations continued coming in during the month of December, bringing our current overall total to $11,113.20.
We are pleased to announce that we have exceeded our goal of $8,600 in honor of Ohio State Organization's 86th birthday. Thanks to all who have helped us to continue forward moving ever! For every additional $500 donated, another seed will fall from our logo seed packet.
When looking for a way to honor or remember a special person, consider donating to one of the many funds of ADSOEF in their name. This is an excellent way to show that you value that special person’s contribution to the field of education.
As the New Year begins, we look forward to seeing the fruition of our Planting Seeds for the Future of education. OSO/ADSOEF continues working to award grants, fellowships, financial support for classroom projects, and scholarships to worthy educators and those in training to become educators. This can only happen through your thoughtful donations!

Student Teaching Semester: Autumn 2023
Sydney Bacon
In the spring of 2023, I received an Esther H. Strickland Student Teaching Grant. I simply could not wait for fall to get into my own classroom and teach the many wonderful minds that I was imagining. As I progressed through the fall semester, I couldn’t help but feel more secure of my future vocation, because I was able to fully concentrate and focus on my teacher education and student teaching, rather than how I was going to cover my expenses for the semester.
I started in a social studies classroom for the first half of the semester. With that, I attended the teacher workday leading up to school starting and was introduced to the teachers who would be mentoring me for the semester. I was a student teacher assigned to both 7th grade social studies and language arts. It was a wonderful experience because I had a prior opportunity to substitute for this same group of students last year. I was familiar with a lot of them but was ever so excited to have the chance to get to know them better.
