A Word or Two from the Board of Directors

It’s May…it’s May…time is literally flying by!  We simply cannot believe we are into May already.   Where did the time go?  Didn’t we just get started with our seventh year as a Foundation?   Now, with a month and a half remaining, it’s time to put the finishing touches and complete 2023-2024 for ADSOEF.  Here are the latest happenings and possibly the last to occur (for this year that is) for ADSOEF:

  • The BOD recently met and approved another candidate for the A. Margaret Boyd Overseas Fellowship at Kent State University.  We approved in March a recipient for the University of Cincinnati.  The BOD is extremely proud and excited to fund two candidates for 2024-2025.  Cheers to our Scholarship Committee!
  • ADSOEF celebrated many successes at our Annual Meeting on April 6.  Be sure to view the YouTube video of the OSO Executive Board Meeting /ADSOEF Annual Meeting.  Many thanks to the OSO Communications and Marketing Committee for this production.  See if you can spot yourself among the many snapshots taken! • The Educational Services Committee has received two more applications to fund and is looking for Board approval at the BOD meeting on May 20.
  • The Governance Committee is still hard at work revising required procedure documents, hoping to finish and receive approval for all by the June 17 board meeting.
  • The OSO/ADSOEF Scholarship Committee has all but completed their responsibilities for the year and is ready to meet in late June to get a head start on their eighth year with ADSOEF.

We have said this before, but believe it is well worth repeating…Thank you for your unwavering support of ADSOEF.   ADSOEF would not be what it is today without YOU !

With warmest regards and much respect,

The ADSOEF Board of Directors

Educational Services Project Receives

a Stamp of Approval!

The Educational Services Committee is excited to announce that the Board of Directors approved an Individual/Classroom/Community Project at the March meeting. Congratulations to Julie Lombardo, Beta Rho! She is the project leader her daughter, Monica Lombardo Todisco, and was awarded $500.00.

The project is titled Media Arts Equipment. Monica is a Media Arts teacher at Circleville High School and will use the funds to purchase a Cricut machine, heat press, and various supplies. Her students will now be able to take their sketches and computer designs to the production stage and make products with the designs embossed on them!

Our Seeds Have Burst into Bloom!

When the ADSOEF Fundraising Committee set the goal of $8,600.00 for the 2023-2024 campaign in honor of the Ohio State Organization's 86th birthday, the committee members knew this was a lofty goal. We were confident, however, that DKG members across Ohio would rise to the occasion.  Not only did our members achieve that goal, but they generously surpassed the targeted $8,600.00 by several thousand dollars.  At the Birthday Luncheon $2,285.00 was collected.  As of April 30, 2024, the  amount donated during the 2023-2024 fundraising campaign stands at $17,885.38.

The ADSOEF Fundraising Committee wishes to extend a huge THANK YOU for your support and generous donations which have provided funding for grants, fellowships, classroom and community projects, and scholarships.  Each one of you has been busy Planting Seeds for the Future of education, and the committee appreciates your efforts.    We also want to remind you this year’s campaign continues on until June 30, 2024.  If you were unable to attend the Esther H. Strickland Birthday Luncheon in April, today is the perfect time to donate in honor or memory of a special person in your life.  Working together, our planted seeds are bursting into beautiful blooms for the future of education!

Chapter Mentoring…a Grand Story to Tell!

Pay close attention to the first gal on the left in the picture below.  Her name is Kaitlin Jones from Gamma Lambda chapter. Kaitlin is one of the younger members in Gamma Lambda. She has been working for the past three years as an educational aide. This past fall she passed all required Praxis exams and is currently interviewing for her first teaching position.  Sandra Procaccio made a donation on behalf of Gamma Lambda Chapter at the April 6 Birthday Luncheon to honor Kaitlin Jones as a new and young incoming educator. According to Sandra Procaccio, President of Gamma Lambda, Kaitlin has worked hard and deserves to be honored!

Congratulations to Kaitlin and cheers to Gamma Lambda chapter for constantly giving her support in her educational journey.  What an inspiration it is to other chapters to reach out so to speak, in their own schools when classified staff members continue training at their own expense to reach a goal, lean into the dream, and make positive steps along the way.  ADSOEF applauds Gamma Lambda members for inspiring, supporting and honoring young educator Kaitlin Jones!

DKG Ohio State Organization

Dear Members of ADSOEF and OSO

I first want to express my sincerest gratitude to the Alpha Delta State Ohio Educational Foundation and the Ohio State Organization. I am a recipient of the Esther H. Strickland Student Teaching Grant. This grant has greatly helped financially during student teaching. By receiving this grant, I was able to focus my full attention on supporting my students in the classroom and learning how to be the best teacher I can be. With this grant, I no longer had to work a part-time job in the evenings and on the weekends to pay for my college expenses. Rather than working, I was able to devote that time to lesson planning, networking, and well-needed rest.
