Learn.Give.Grow...together!
"We all have something to learn. We all have something to give."
Healthy Eating. Healthy Bodies.
Healthy Lifestyle. Healthy Community.
At our April 17th Parent Involvement Meeting, Jessica Ivey and Kenneth Smith spoke to us about health, wellness and nutrition. They gave us some great information on healthy eating and how to take care of ourselves from a Biblical perspective.

Jessica Ivey, RDN, LD, a culinary and wellness dietitian gave us some great tips on healthy snacks, shopping and planning meals. She also disseminated some really delicious, quick and easy recipes. Emphasizing the importance of eating together as a family, Ms. Ivey pointed out that as a result of family meal time, children are more confident, have better vocabularies and higher test scores. She recommended trying to involve your children in meal preparation and clean up as well.
Kenneth Smith, PRFT, (and Mrs. McWilliams' father) is a certified personal trainer who spoke on the subject of exercising and taking care of our selves. He stressed the importance of staying physically fit because if we aren't healthy then we can't take care of those whom we love. We also aren't able to glorify God in all we do.

For more information on healthy eating or more recipes, please contact Jessica Ivey at www.jessicaiveyrdn.com . You can also find her onFacebook/Twitter/Instagram: @JessicaIveyRDN. And if you are

Foundations Teacher Spotlight
Rachel Despinasse: 3K Teacher making an impact!
An Atlanta native, Rachel Despinasse, graduated the University of West Georgia with a BA in psychology. She is currently working on her masters of Education in Early Childhood/Elementary Education through the University of West Alabama.

Celebrating her two-year anniversary in July with her husband, Noah, the Despinasses just moved to Fairfield this past March. "We feel as though God just led us here, and we want to be here." With both church and work in Fairfield, they know that God is working here in a big way. "He's leading people here, and there's a lot of work to be done," she says. "We love this city; the people are kind and there's a lot of hope."
With a God-given passion for children, Rachel first began working with children through children's ministry at her church. She has been teaching for seven years and is a bright light in the Foundations 3K classroom. She has such an enthusiastic and engaging spirit and children are naturally drawn to her. She loves the simplicity of their minds - their innocence.
Rachel began working at Foundations in 2016 teaching 3K and hasn't left the classroom yet. With a huge smile on her face, she says that she loves working at Foundations because she is able to teach where "Jesus is part of the program." She believes that blending academics with the Gospel really sets our preschool program apart.

Teaching is a natural extension of who Rachel is. She is observant and intuitive and loves the individual interaction with each child. She says, "Each child is different, and no day is the same with them." She stresses the importance of showing students how to apply God's principles in ways it makes sense to them - on a three-year-old level. She likes to keep it SIMPLE.

Strongly believing in the social-emotional aspect of teaching, Rachel is able to talk freely about God to her students - to help them process their feelings honestly and safely. "When they lie, I explain to them what they've done wrong and emphasize the importance of telling the truth because that's what God teaches us." Teaching is modeling - showing children how to love and to serve one other. A refusal to correct is a refusal to love.

"We have such incredible opportunities to connect not only with the students, but with their families." She adds, "Through classroom learning, worship songs and Bible verse memorization, the children are learning so much, but what they are sharing with their parents is really making an impact!"

Rachel, with her husband by her side, is trusting in the Lord in what work He has in store for them. They are so both excited to be living and working in Fairfield and want the Lord to use them for His glory.
Leaning on the Lord's word for guidance and inspiration, her favorite verse is:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
Proverbs 3:5

The Parent Involvement Program…

We talk about it a lot at Foundations, but what does it REALLY mean?

It began when you made a choice to seek out and send your child, not just to any high-quality academic program, but to a Christ-centered preschool, one where the love of our Lord is spoken of and shared each day. It makes a difference…seeds of love and grace are being sown daily at Foundations.

I n our fast-paced world (aka over-booked, rushed, drive-by, etc.), Parent Involvement means you’ve made a commitment to INVEST in your child. It’s the little things…like taking the time to walk your child into school each day. From my ‘fly on the wall’ vantage point, I am blessed to see morning conversations, send-off hugs, and quick words with a teacher. The same is true for the afternoon walk-out…swapping stories about the day before you reach the car and move on to the next stop…. those moments may not seem like much, but over time, they are part of building a crucial relationship and consequently, an important foundation.

Then, you made a commitment to attend Parent Involvement Meetings (PIMs). To hear a word about God (celebrating Christmas & Easter with your family, etc.), a word about the practical how-to of daily life (family finances, getting ready for kindergarten, etc.), and possibly most importantly, to take time to fellowship and build relationships with other families who share your journey. ALL are important pieces of the Parent Involvement Program. Field trips, classroom parties, parent conferences, and even those ‘homework’ assignments all play a role, too.

Parent Involvement or Parent INVESTMENT…you won’t regret it! And, as the next years unfold and the seeds you’ve sown during preschool grow to fruition, we can’t wait to see fabulous futures revealed!
