The Five Love Languages
"Now You're Speaking My Language!"

The upcoming Parent Involvement Meeting (PIM) is next Tuesday, February 27th. This meeting will be such a treat for everyone to learn what "love language" you speak and how you relate to your family members.

Inspired by book The Five Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell, Ty Dodge (Board Member), will be doing the program. There will be questionnaires to complete to learn what your "language" is. The five different love languages are: Words & Affirmation, Quality Time, Gifts, Acts of Service and Touch. What do you think you are? What makes you feel loved? And how do your family and friends enjoy being loved?

Do you like to hear words of acceptance/approval or do you feel appreciated when someone helps you with chores/tasks? Does a hug make you feel connected and valued? Do you enjoy receiving gifts or like going to the park with your family? The #1 job of parents is to meet their children's need for love. A child with a full love tank = a healthy, emotionally stable child.

We all are wired for relationship. We all desire to be known, to belong...and to be loved. Oftentimes, we speak love in our own language, and that's like speaking Chinese to a person who only understands French. Observe and study your family members and see what you think their love languages are, and then start speaking their language!
Foundations Teacher Spotlight
MyQuella Chambers: 4K Purple Teacher & Role Model
MyQuella Chambers first came to Foundations in August of 2014 as an After-School Care teacher. She believes that her coming here was God-ordained and sent. Having grown up in Fairfield, she loves the sense of community and the focus on family, neighbors and recreation. She attended Restoration Academy, and in 2013, she graduated Lawson State with a BS degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.

In her second year at Foundations, MyQuella became a 3K teacher in the fall of 2015 and began teaching 4K in 2016. She loves teaching at Foundations because she is able to
teach her students the academics they need and about Christ and His gospel. She believes that both are foundational in order to succeed in life.
Growing up, MyQuella had some "awesome teachers" and some "not so awesome teachers," and unfortunately, some of the negative words and influences of the less-than-stellar teachers stayed with her. But God... Knowing who she was in Christ, she didn't let the shame and condemnation deter her. She was determined to "be the change" she wanted to be an overcomer and now an excellent teacher, encourager and role model. She says, "To see the kids have an 'ah-ha' moment in our classroom, I feel good about what I'm doing." Always the encourager, one of her favorite quotes is "Teamwork makes a dream work." (A Chambers original by the way.)
The social/emotional challenges with her students help them all to grow. MyQuella says, "to not be able to fix a problem for a student is hard, but it's so rewarding to teach and redirect them on how to handle problems as they arise in a Christ-like manner." In her quiet and affirming way, she emphasizes the importance of the students understanding the reasoning of why and why not, not just because. "The children have to find their way to the solution for themselves," she says. Thanks for your grace, servant heart and wisdom!

MyQuella is inspired daily by her precious two-year-old daughter, Makhenzi. "My daughter holds me accountable and pushes me to be great," she says. Always leaning on the Lord's word for guidance and inspiration, her favorite verses are:
  • "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proberbs 22:6
  • "Fathers do not provoke your children's anger, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4

From the desk of Mrs. Drake...

What is Love?

It may mean many things to many people, but we know that the ULTIMATE illustration and truest form is God’s love for each of us. God’s love was mirrored in so many ways at this month’s Valentine's Dance: Moms, dads, grandparents and more taking time to dress for the occasion; classmates were dancing like no one was watchin' (though many were & smiling); our teachers were serving supper to the crowd & hitting the dance floor too! It was so easy to see the love of God in all!

We’ll wrap up February with "5 Love Languages" at our Tuesday Parent Meeting. We’d love for you to join us on Tuesday, the 27th!

"We love because He first loved us."
