I hope this message finds you and your family safe and well.  Happy 5th day of summer!!

Our message today is for parents/families... Ever since our schools were dismissed on March 13th, parents have stepped in to ensure that each child continued to make progress in their learning. Parents had to navigate their own jobs, lives and demands, while also making the time to connect their children to the Zoom conferences, Newsela, ST Math, and IXL questions and activities.  Parents...you were amazing!!!  And, you were the best partners during a time when we were all trying to figure things out.

So while the spring of 2020 wasn't anything that we were used to or had experienced in our past, we know that our families were called upon to make the difference.  Thank you to all of the families for making distance learning the best it could be!!  You were and are remarkable!!

To all of our students...thank you for engaging in your learning and for making the best out of a very unique set of circumstances!! You deserve a great summer break!!

Please check your email regularly, as we will share ongoing updates on the progress we are making toward school reopening.  As stated in our previous communication, we have a goal to bring students and staff back to campuses in a more traditional setting, with students attending school daily, while also implementing a number of safety and cleaning protocols.

Thank you for all you did to support teaching and learning!!

Kindly,

Mark Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

HIGHLIGHT: Summer Learning Resources
Summer learning

As an extension to our Distance Learning plans from this year, our curriculum leaders and experts are creating summer learning resources to provide review materials for the month of July, and Jump-Start materials for the month of August for all TK-8th grade students.  These self-guided summer learning tools will both have four weeks of content, and will provide a variety of reading, writing, math, history, and science activities aligned to critical instructional standards to help your child prepare for the return to school this fall. Additionally, the resource guides will also include stay active options, along with social/emotional county resources to help support healthy activities this summer.  Links for each resource guide will be emailed and posted on our website beginning with the Review Guide on July 6th, and the Jump-Start Guide on August 10th.

We want to once again thank all of our amazing parents and care-givers for helping to support online learning this past school year.  FVSD staff members will be working over the next six weeks to collect input, research various models, and ultimately provide rigorous academic learning options for the fall.
