Happy Wednesday!!

It is crazy that we are already in March!  In fact, a student in kindergarten informed me that it is the 110th day of school, which was absolutely priceless.  I was reminded that I, too, counted the number of days when I was in kindergarten.

In this issue, we...
  • Share an Update on the Moiola School Property
  • Celebrate Students and Parents from Courreges
  • Provide a Construction Update on Courreges and Masuda
  • Support Childhood Cancer Research and Awareness
  • Promote the District's Art Show
  • Solicit Input - Parent LCAP Survey
As always, thank you for all you do to support teaching and learning.

Kindly,
Mark Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

UPDATE: Property Formerly Known as Fred Moiola School
Moiola Map
Since it issued a Request for Proposals for the purchase or lease of the District surplus real property, formerly known as Moiola School, the District has received a number of responses.  Currently, the District is completing its initial review of proposals and will be contacting selected proposers in the coming weeks to clarify the terms set forth in their proposals and/or initiate negotiations, in some circumstances.  All proposals will then be presented to the Board of Trustees for further direction at a future Board meeting.
HIGHLIGHT: Trustees Honor Courreges Elementary Students and Parents at February Board Meeting
Courreges Board Recognition Slideshow
At their February meeting, the Board of Trustees had the opportunity to celebrate some outstanding students and dedicated volunteers from Courreges Elementary School.  The meeting began with  Girl Scout Troop 4167 leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  The Board honored and thanked parents CC Nelson and Brigitte Bellew.  In addition, the Board celebrated the accomplishments and outstanding efforts of students Marcus Cao (K), Jayden Vu (1st), Mayson Dambach (2nd), Chase Skodje (3rd), Ave Acosta (4th), and Nikolas Day-Galitev (5th).
In addition, Fountain Valley Rotary generously donated $3,000 in support of our literacy programs.  FV Rotary has consistently been a wonderful supporter of our students, staff and programs.  It is with the support of community partners like them that we are able to achieve extraordinary outcomes for our students.
The February meeting was a wonderful evening spent in celebration of our amazing parent community, dedicated students and staff from Courreges School, and outstanding District partners like Fountain Valley Rotary!  For more photos from the evening, visit our Facebook page
UPDATE: Second Bond Issuance for Measure O a great success!
Measure O Construction Continues as Second Bond Issuance Successful
On Tuesday, February 12th, the District sold its second series of Measure O bonds.  The sale was a great success!  All $35 million authorized for sale by the Board of Trustees were sold.  Mesirow Financial, Inc., was the winner bidder out of a total of nine bids.  We are happy to report that due to a number of factors, including our upgraded Moody's rating to Aa1, the District secured an interest rate below that of the previous sale.  This allows for a lower payback ratio, which provides savings for our taxpayers.  As we continue to make great progress at our Phase 1 schools (Masuda and Courreges) and look forward to breaking ground at our Phase 2 schools (Cox, Tamura and Fulton) this summer, we continue to be excited by the impact of Measure O, in improving learning environments for our staff and students.  And more so, we are grateful for our community for their continued support!!
SPOTLIGHT: FVSD Goes Gold and Raises Money for Pediatric Cancer Research
FVSD Go Gold Slideshow
On February 15th, FVSD went GOLD as we dressed in yellow or gold to show support and raise awareness of pediatric cancer on International Childhood Cancer Day.  Across the District, at all of our campuses, from preschool to middle school, and at the District Office, students and staff proudly wore gold and yellow.  In addition, students and staff helped raise more than $6,000 for the Irvine-based Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.  We are so proud of our students and staff!  For more information on International Childhood Cancer Day, click here .  And, to see more photos of our outstanding students and staff in GOLD, please visit our Facebook page. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this very special day!

17th Annual District Art Show Save the Date

On April 23rd, the FVSD Family will come together in celebration of the visual and performing arts at the 17th Annual District Art Show. Join us from 4-7PM at the District Office for exhibit of student artwork from all ten of our schools.  In addition, there will be performances by our Vocal Choir program; interactive art stations; a cookie creation station; display of winners from our jewelry design contest; photo booth; food trucks; and, so much more!  This is an event your whole family will enjoy.  We hope to see you on April 23rd!

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU: LCAP Survey
LCAP Survey

In 2013, the State of California changed the way education is funded. School districts are required to develop a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) that includes input from students, teachers, parents, and community members on the goals, actions, and budget priorities. Please take a few moments to assist us with this important process. Your input matters!  You can access the survey through Monday, March 18th in English or in Vietnamese
We have put together a brief infographic in English and Vietnamese that includes an update on various metrics we use to measure performance.  It is a great way to learn more about the progress we continue to make toward our District's Goals.
TAG IT!:  #FVSDDriven #WeHeartFVSD
FVSD Driven
As noted above, our theme for 2018-19 is FVSD Driven!   We hope that you will join us in documenting how you are "FVSD Driven" by capturing the amazing moments in our schools and tagging your photos on social media  #FVSDDriven #WeHeartFVSD.
