Do You Still Have Your Bug Box from Mr. Gustke's Class?

For 18 years, Science Faculty Rob Gustke P '16, '18, has inspired students in their appreciation of the natural world through the study of insects.

Scores of students have traipsed the prairie, butterfly nets in hand, on the hunt for the bounties of insects the 1,100 acres so generously offers. They then create their own bug box, pinning and curating the insects they have caught.

Read here , where Gustke reflects on the importance of this mode of learning, how the prairie's insect population has changed, and the terrifying tarantula hawk.
"By learning where and how to hunt for specific specimens, the students can engage with the bugs in their native habitat, and they thus come to know some of these beautiful little animals that hold our prairie ecosystem together."
