Introducing Christian Schultz: Four Generations of Shannon Leadership

Shannon Construction is proud to introduce Christian Schultz as part of the fourth generation of family leadership.

While his connection to Shannon spans a lifetime, Christian brings more than legacy to the role. With a background in engineering and a decade of experience in the biomedical industry, he steps into this new chapter focused on stewardship, earned trust, and strengthening the service-first culture that defines Shannon.

In this conversation, Christian shares what this transition means to him, how outside experience has shaped his leadership perspective, and what he believes sets Shannon apart.

A Conversation with Christian Schultz

Q: Joining Shannon Construction is a meaningful moment both professionally and personally. What does it mean to you to step into this role as part of the fourth generation of your family’s leadership?

A: I am grateful and honored to have the opportunity to be in the fourth generation of my family to steward the legacy of Shannon Construction. This organization and its people have been an integral part of my personal history and I’m looking forward to adding to the professional history over the coming years.

Q: From your perspective, what truly sets Shannon apart?

A: I believe the differentiating factor for Shannon is the service-first approach we provide. Like many other contractors, we aim to build strong relationships with our clients, be responsive, and deliver a high quality product. Where Shannon sets itself apart is how we partner with our clients to help them achieve their goals. This could mean finding creative cost savings opportunities during budgeting or construction, suggesting a completely alternate strategy, or working with other pre-construction/construction partners to find the best solution to a problem. Usually, these strategies result in Shannon receiving less revenue or the elimination of a job entirely. However, we believe it's our responsibility to help our clients achieve their goals and to serve the broader community.

Project in Progress: Center for Metal Arts Historic Pattern Shop Rehabilitation

Project Name: Center for Metal Arts Pattern Shop Rehabilitation

Built: Circa 1870

Location: Johnstown, PA

Project Manager: Patrick Bruce

Superintendent: Dave Jansen

Owner: Johnstown Redevelopment Authority

Developer: Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation

Architect: Pfaffmann and Associates, PC

Tenant: Center for Metal Arts

Shannon Construction is proud to be leading the rehabilitation of the historic Pattern Shop in Johnstown, PA, one of the original buildings of the former Cambria Iron Company and now home to the Center for Metal Arts.

Built circa 1870 as part of the Cambria Iron and Steel complex, the Pattern Shop is deeply rooted in the industrial history that shaped Johnstown and helped power America’s steel industry. It is especially fitting that the building now houses the Center for Metal Arts, a nationally recognized forging school, where metalworking continues inside the same walls more than a century later.

We broke ground in August with the goal of stabilizing and securing the long-vacant structure. As demolition progressed, we uncovered significant water infiltration and concealed deterioration that required a complete roof replacement. Those discoveries, which were outside of our control, meant replacing the entire roof during one of the coldest winters in recent years.

This project is not about a dramatic visual transformation. It is about preservation and long-term stability. It is about reinforcing a historic structure so it can stand strong for decades to come. By investing in the Pattern Shop today, we are helping ensure that an important piece of Johnstown’s industrial legacy continues to serve a purpose that is closely tied to its original roots.

Stay tuned for updates as this preservation effort continues.

The Center for Metal Arts is a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to preserving and advancing blacksmithing and metalworking through hands-on education, artist residencies, and community programs. Once complete, the rehabilitated Pattern Shop will support expanded classes and events, strengthening both the organization and the surrounding community.

This transformative project is made possible through the support and partnership of the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority and Pittsburgh Gateways, whose investment in historic preservation and community revitalization continues to create meaningful impact across the region.
