Four New Inductees in the Hall of Fame

In 1976 the Legislature created Texas Ranger Commemorative Commission, which was authorized with the construction of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame memorial at the museum in Waco. In the last 47 years an estimated 2.3 million persons worldwide have visited. Four Rangers were inducted to the Hall of Fame last weekend during the Texas Ranger Reunion hosted by the Texas Ranger Association Foundation. 

Johnnie Aycock

Johnnie Aycock is a decorated Army Vietnam veteran awarded the Bronze Star with Valor and elected to the Navy SEAL veteran’s organization for joint combat service. Ranger Aycock joined Texas DPS in 1968 as a Trooper, was promoted to Texas Ranger in 1983 and served in Central Texas before retirement. He is the only DPS officer twice awarded the Commissioners’ Medal of Valor for his rescue of two children held in hostage incidents.

Homer Garrison, Jr.

Homer Garrison Jr. was the key figure in the 20th century development of Texas DPS and the Texas Rangers. He became the first Assistant Director when the Department of Public Safety was founded in 1935 and promoted to Director in 1938. He developed numerous services including traffic supervision, driver licensing, vehicle inspection, safety education and disaster response. He advanced the professionalism of Texas law enforcement through the creation of advanced forensic and fingerprinting programs. He was crucial in the placement of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum and Company “F” Headquarters in Waco.

John Martin

John Martin joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1986. In 1996, he was promoted to Texas Ranger and assigned to Company D in San Antonio. He pioneered the internationally respected Unsolved Crime Investigation Team and was the first Texas Ranger to become an FBI certified Criminal Profiler. Martin helped develop the Department’s threat assessment program and implemented advanced criminal and witness interviewing techniques.

James Frank "Pete" Rogers

Pete Rogers joined the military in 1942 and served as a fighter pilot in Europe during World War II. After the war Rogers joined Texas DPS as a Highway Patrolman, becoming a Pilot-Investigator in 1951. In 1958 he was promoted to the Texas Rangers becoming a Captain in 1969. In August of 1974 he supervised the interagency response after prisoners at a State prison unit in Huntsville took hostages in a bloody standoff. A blend of tradition and the future, Pete Rogers was a skilled horseman and a pilot with a jet rating.
