Introducing our Four Roses Bourbon Private Barrel that we selected during our July trip. We selected this barrel from a blind tasting between all 10 Four Roses recipes.

Mashbill: 60% corn, 35% rye, 5% malted barley

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Heavy on rich fruits and sweet candies. Balanced by a deep layer of spiced caramel, brown sugar, vanilla bean, and toasted oak.

Palate: Initial wave of bold caramel candy, cherry syrup, and dark chocolate melts into heavy rye spice. Baking spices like cinnamon red hots, clove, and nutmeg punch through alongside a touch of leather and earthy oak.

Finish: Long, warming, and spicier than the palate. The sweetness of the dark fruits fades into a peppery kick of rye spice, citrus zest, oak tannins, and a sweet, lingering note reminiscent of cherry cola.

In the early 1970s, Benriach broke convention in Speyside by returning to distilling batches of whisky in the old, 19th century style, using malted barley smoked with Highland peat. This wood rich Highland peat imparts distinctly sweet and smoky notes into Benriach peated whiskies.
