A Night of Laughter in Support of Survivors
This weekend, Press Play, one of the longest running improv comedy teams in Washington, DC teamed up with My Sister's Place for a night of laughter. We were so grateful for the opportunity to take part in this creative fundraising event. Thank you, Press Play!

Did you know you can use your talents and networks to spearhead a fundraising endeavor in support of MSP? Birthday celebrations, benefit concerts and events, happy hours, and social media campaigns are just a few ways you can maximize your support for My Sister's Place. Consider creating your own fundraiser, like Press Play, and show your support for families fleeing domestic violence.
Turning Pain into Purpose
“Dana” is a 26-year-old survivor of domestic violence. When she was 16 years old she met her partner at her high school prom. Soon after she graduated she found out she was pregnant, her partner attempted to force her into marriage. When Dana refused, her partner withheld food, restricted her access to family and friends, and emotionally, physically, and verbally abused her. He eventually turned his abuse to their daughter, then 9 months old. After 6 years, Dana found the courage to escape her abuser.

Prior to entering MSP, Dana was living at Freddie House, where she initially sought assistance and safety. Her abuser found her, and thus she and her daughter moved to our shelter.

While housed at MSP, Dana remained optimistic and resilient, despite the trauma that both she and her daughter had experienced. Dana worked alongside her case manager and took advantage of the services MSP offers, including attending groups that address topics such as financial health, coping skills, and parenting support. With the assistance of her case manager, Dana worked on goals related to housing and self-care, and was also connected to a therapist. Currently, Dana’s goals include going back to school to complete her Bachelors in Information Technology, maintaining full-time employment, and securing stable housing through RISE, MSP's transitional housing program. Dana is grateful to MSP for continuing to open doors leading her to a path of self-sufficiency and independence.

We are so proud of Dana, as she is even working on becoming a survivor speaker so that she can share her story to help others and tell them about the services MSP offers. As Dana beautifully explains “There is help out there.”
Thank You for Answering our Call
In January we reached out to you, our generous supporters, about the urgent need for basic necessities such as diapers and baby-wipes for our new shelter residents. Thank you for answering our call! We received over 20 boxes of much needed diapers and over 60 packs of baby wipes. A survivor shared with staff “I couldn’t afford diapers for my baby, and I was embarrassed. I am so happy to no longer need to fear asking for support for my baby and me. I know MSP has our back.”

Young children are the largest population that MSP serves and as many parents know, the need for diapers, wipes, and other necessities never ends. You too can help provide much needed supplies for our emergency shelter residents via our Amazon Wish List . With just one click the items you purchase will be shipped directly to MSP! If you have any questions about making an in-kind donation, please reach out to MSP's Development & Communications Manager, Quincy Inman at 202-540-1062 or email qinman@mysistersplacedc.org.
