We have new information to share with you!

Greetings!

On May 25, 2022, Sowing Opportunities' project manager, Ricardo San José, traveled the long and arduous path to the remote village of Chajmaic, Guatemala to deliver additional seedlings for the 2nd greenhouse beds of the 30 families for the greenhouses pilot project

The rains are heavy, as a tropical storm descends on the region, decreasing Ricardo's visibility.

Above is a photo of entering Chajmaic on May 5. To give you an idea of the driving rains on the highway, click on the photo above to see a 15-second video, driving from Río Dulce to Chajmaic.

We are extremely grateful for the donations and support we have received that have made this possible (including two anonymous Donor Advised Funds donors whom we are thanking here).

Additionally, we have added all the photos and names to this page regarding those who sent funding for all 30 families to have an envelope of ~$25 (Q. 200) like the one that Ricardo is giving to Joel above.

Because of the excellent work that the 30 participant families have done in their greenhouses, Ricardo delivered additional trays of seedlings (like the one that Fern is holding), on May 26, 2022 for each family to fill their 2nd greenhouse bed. One bed will be for their family to eat and one bed will be to sell in the market. Federico will work with the families to reinforce their learning.

A follow-up email on Monday (May 30) will detail the plants Ricardo delivered, the growth of the current plants, and additional training.

Meanwhile, back in Massachusetts...

Finally, the story of How an Indigenous Remote Village in Guatemala Gained an Economy has recently been published.  We would be grateful for you to share this with others.

Because other neighboring villages are interested in getting greenhouses, we are adding this to our original long-range plan.

Please help us by sharing this email.

Note that the administrators do not take a percentage. All funds go to those in need in this remote, indigenous village.

Thank you again for helping to move the greenhouses project from hope to reality!
