WHEATLAND, MO. (Sept. 23, 2022) - Night One of the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Nationals saw four season champions crowned on Friday night at Lucas Oil Speedway.
It was a double celebration for Andrew Hartman as he piloted International Addiction to victory in the Limited Pro Stock Tractors division. Hartman, of Haubstadt, Indiana, went 379.56 feet to claim the win by a little more than nine feet over Chris Aschliman in Diggin for a Livin.
Hartman also celebrated a repeat Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League season championship in the Limited Pro Stock Tractors class.
“I knew the tractor was capable of it, it was a matter if we had our setup right,” Hartman said the winning pull. “We haven’t made a pass that long all year. To be able to put down a run like that and finish out the year and round out the championship is just unreal.”
Hartman said it's been an emotional last year. His father, Quinton Hartman, a long-time top puller, passed away a year ago just before the Pro Pulling Nationals.
"It's special to be able to do this," Hartman said. "It meant a lot this year, more than I can really put into words."
Action in seven divisions is set to fire up at 6 p.m. Saturday. In other action on Friday:
Jones saves best for last in Lightweight Super Stocks: Bobby Jones of Pleasant Hill, Illinois, the final of 17 pullers in the ARP Lightweight Super Stock Tractors, pulled off the victory with a distance of 361.89. That was just under 11 feet better than runner-up Alter Ego driven by Bryan Bowles of Mount Vernon, Missouri.
“I sat there til the last of the class and watched everything go through," Jones said. "It seemed like the track was tricky. We tried to stay to the right side where everybody was getting pulled to the left. It seemed like it just locked in and away it went."
The season title went to Considered Armed and Dangerous, driven by Terry Blackbourn of Newton, Wis., after his fifth-place run.
Gearhart wins pull, Stacey takes Super Stock Diesel title: Justin Gearhart of Circleville, Ohio, edged out Van Haisley in Rock Hard Ram by 2.37 feet to capture the ARP Super Stock Diesel main event.
Gearhart, last to go out of eight competitors, pulled 339.60 feet to earn the victory.
"When you come out here and you beat Van and you beat Erik, two of the best who've done it, that's pretty high marks," Gearhart said.
Erik Stacey in Smoknya HD wound up third and that was enough to give the Winchester, Ohio, driver his second straight ARP Super Stock Diesel season championship.
Nelson wins race and championship for Mini Rods: Jordan Nelson of Farley, Iowa, took the Summit Racing Mini Rod victory by outdistancing Bruce Slagh in Have No Mercy by just over five feet.
Nelson, in Loud & Mini, pulled 310.56 for the victory and, in a victory lane interview, talked about losing 60 pounds in his first season in the Mini Rod so he could better fit into the vehicle.
"It was a year ago here when I first sat in Adam Koeseter's Mini Rod," Nelson said. "It's been a long summer. It's been worth it. But if anyone's got any cookies, I'm ready to eat some."
