A Message from Our Pastor and Teacher

Sunday, January 31 ~ “The Rosa Parks Decision”
February is Black History Month; it is a month in which we honor the remarkable contributions of African-Americans. These contributions literally transformed the society in which we live. This Sunday we will honor Rosa Parks who took a stand by taking a seat. She said, “I sat because I was tired.” But she did not mean that her feet were tired. She meant that her soul was tired, her heart was tired, her whole being was tired of playing by racist rules. Each one of us faces the “Rosa Parks decision.” Will we respect our deep truth within and live the undivided life? May both, Rosa Parks and Jesus of Nazareth, inspire us to honor our soul.

Reflection of the Week from the RUCC Racial Justice Team
“This is the only path to domestic tranquility and healing. So God, grant us as a people; grant us as an entire nation, grant our new President; grant our new Vice President; grant every preacher; grant every politician; grant every person, Black and white, Latino, Native, Asian, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, people of faith, not of faith but with a moral conscience, every human being created by God, documented or undocumented, gay, straight or trans, young or old. And what a day it will be when our children’s children call us what you have called us to be: repairers of the breach.”
- Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, president of Repairers of the Breach, is a co-chair of the Poor People's Campaign, a movement to build the power of poor people and change the public narrative on poverty. He is a minister in the UCC’s sibling denomination, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Source: https://time.com/5931343/william-barber-inaugural-prayer-service-sermon/

From the Environmental Justice Team

“If we want to use forests as a weapon in the fight against climate change, then we must allow them to grow old, which is exactly what large conservation groups are asking us to do.”
