Christmas at our Sister Parish in Turkana
Thanks to all of you for your purchases of Turkana Christmas Cards and crafts from Kenya and elsewhere over the past two Sundays. Your generosity enables us to add $572 to our next quarterly stipend for St. Mark's Parish. The additional funds will support parish programs at our Sister Parish in Turkana. Please pray for peace and well-being for the community of St. Mark’s Parish. May our friendship continue, and may they experience a joy-filled Christmas season.
SJAC Hosts Advent Collection for SMSS
The Oratory Social Justice Action Committee (SJAC) is hosting an Advent collection for the pop-up shop at St. Mary's Star of the Sea (SMSS) in Carroll Gardens. The following items are most urgently needed for our migrant neighbors:
- wool socks
- toiletries
- gloves
- jackets
We would very much appreciate your generous participation. New and gently used donations can be dropped off at SMSS, which is located at 467 Court Street. Please text Mary Carriero at 718-501-8510 to coordinate a drop-off date and time.
SJAC Seeking Mentors
The Social Justice Action Committee (SJAC) is seeking mentors for 18–20 year old asylum seekers. These incredible—and incredibly vulnerable—young people benefit greatly when supported by trusted adults who can help them navigate life in a new city. Several parishioners are already serving as mentors, and there are opportunities to meet potential mentees at various locations and at different times of the day. Online training is also available. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact Lou Kuhlmann at lrkuhlmann@gmail.com. Thank you very much for your consideration.
Warm Clothing Distribution at Assumption
Looking for a great volunteer opportunity for you (and the whole family!) after the Christmas rush? The Brooklyn Oratory SJAC will be partnering with the Brooklyn Heights Interfaith Network to host a warm clothing distribution for our neighbors in need, the weekend of December 27–28 at Assumption Hall. Click here to sign up. We hope to see you there! Please reach out to Julie Fissinger at juliecfm@msn.com with any questions.
* Please feel free to sign-up for the January 18–19 sorting and distribution dates that will take place at Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims as well!
