Message from our Pastor, Father Phil Reifenberg
|
|
Dear Parishioners,
All of the Church-related things that were supposed to happen this Spring:
- Last Saturday’s 2020 New Evangelization Summit
- First Communion at SJB last Sunday
- First Communion at STA this Saturday
- Spring Assembly of Priests at the Abbey in Fontana (Walworth County) on May 4-6
- The Fifth Anniversary of the Archdiocesan Synod on May 30, the Vigil of the Feast of Pentecost
- SJB Grade School Graduation on June 9
Of course, First Communions and graduation will be re-scheduled for after the “Rule of 10” has been lifted and we can resume holding larger assemblies in Church. The Synod Anniversary has been re-scheduled for early December; the Spring Assembly of Priests will be combined in an enhanced one-day Fall Assembly to happen in September. The New Evangelization Summit was held in an abbreviated on-line virtual format.
We’ve only had to postpone one wedding ceremony. Although we have suffered fewer deaths of parishioners over the last couple of months than one might have normally anticipated, funeral services in those instances had to be restricted to the immediate family in order to conform to the “Rule of 10.” There is a possibility that we will be able to conduct Memorial Masses for these parishioners later in the year once restrictions on gatherings in Church have been relaxed.
Late this past week, Archbishop Listecki issued a draft of “Directives, Guidelines and Considerations for Returning to Mass” that will help shape Catholic parishes’ practices once Governor Evers’ Executive Order expires on May 26. I will attempt to summarize these things in next week’s bulletin.
One event, however, that I had hoped to start publicizing this week was the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 17, at which Father Alan Jurkus was to be the principal celebrant to mark the 50th Anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. Because we will still be operating under the “Rule of 10” on that weekend, we are postponing Fr. Alan’s celebration until things return to a more “normal” state later in the Year. Please see his own message elsewhere in the SJB bulletin. But please don’t let this stop you from sending a congratulatory card or letter to him to mark his anniversary on May 23rd; his address is: 5435 Morningside Lane, Greenfield, WI 53221.

Celebrating 50th Anniversary of Ordination!
As we navigate these unprecedented times each of us has have to make many changes and adjustments in our plans. It’s the same with me. I had hoped to be able to return and celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving on my 50th anniversary of ordination this May. It now looks like this will need to be rescheduled to a later time.
St John's was my first assignment as a newly ordained priest. I arrived in June 1970 and spent 5 great years with you. It’s been said a priest’s first assignment is his first love. That is certainly true for me! I continue to cherish all the memories and experiences. These are treasures indeed. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
I hope that we will be able to gather for a Mass of Thanksgiving when times and regulations permit.
“Fr. Al” - Fr. Alan Jurkus

We look forward to starting our 65th year in partnership with Road America!
It has been exciting to watch the progress on the newly constructed concession stand. While we do not know for certain when this race season will actually begin or how fan attendance will develop, we have begun preparing for our part of the new season.

Spring Cemetery Clean-up
Spring cleaning at the cemetery is complete. Please check the northeast corner of the cemetery shed for items that were moved for cleaning (wreaths & holders, extra solar lights, Easter decorations, etc.). Spring /summer decorations may be placed beginning May 1. We ask that families be mindful of the cemetery rules, which are also posted on the door of the shed. These regulations are in place to limit interference with the cemetery’s lawn care and maintenance procedures. We also wish to avoid hazards and inadvertent damage to decorations. We strive to maintain a pleasant cemetery environment and appreciate your cooperation in our efforts.

Please join us on Wednesday, May 13 at 3:00 on the School's Facebook page for a live-streamed May Crowning ceremony, social-distance style! The crowning of statues of Mary during the month of May is a popular form of devotion among Catholics in the United States. Mary always points us to her son Jesus, the source of her strength. In crowning her statue, we honor Mary as the Queen of Heaven as well as a disciple of Jesus. Although we cannot gather in person this year, we will continue SJB's tradition of a May Crowning, making it available by live-stream. The second grade students will present flowers outside to Mary. Helena Erdly, the Student Council president, will crown Mary.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
