Rev. Craig Hadley is Our Preacher this Sunday
|
March 27, FourthSunday of Lent ~ The Pharisaical Son
Craig Hadley is the Lead Pastor of Paradox Church here in Redlands, California. A group of his friends and family started Paradox in 2016, and two years later, Paradox became the second fully-affirming church in Redlands, 20 years behind RUCC. Currently, Paradox is in a 66-part sermon series through every book of the Bible, and the church is studying part 63, the Gospel of Luke.
Craig and his wife, Kimi, have been married for over 11 years, and their two children, Maya and Bode, paradoxically make them both feel old and young at the same time.
When he was two, Craig moved to Redlands with his family, which he has called home for the past 36 years. He graduated from La Sierra University in Riverside with a Masters of Divinity, and he is on track to graduate with a Doctor of Ministry from George Fox University this May.

This Sunday -- One Great Hour of Sharing
|
One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) special mission offering of the United Church of Christ involves you in disaster, refugee/immigration, and development ministries throughout the world. When a disaster strikes or people are displaced or made refugees by violence or extreme poverty, you are part of the immediate response and of the long-term recovery.
Through OGHS you engage in holistic development programs including health care, education, agriculture, food sustainability, micro-financing and women’s empowerment. Because the UCC relates in mutual partnership to churches and organizations through Global Ministries and worldwide response & recovery networks, your contributions to One Great Hour of Sharing put you in the right place at the right time for the relief, accompaniment and recovery of the most vulnerable. You meet immediate needs and you address the underlying causes that create those needs in the first place.
We will receive this special mission offering on Sunday, March 27. Please be as generous as you are able.

LENT EVENTS
at Redlands United Church of Christ
|
|
Mid-week Lenten Study Wednesday, March 23
What can a Carmelite monk of the 1600’s offer to 21st century technological and scientific minds?
What can a pot and pan washing monk have to offer to internet-connected 2022 followers of Jesus?
Brother Lawrence is one of the most “practical impractical” mystics. Just maybe he can offer us a dish-washing hand on our Lenten journey!
RUCC member and retired minister, Ben Bohren, is excited to share in discussion about Brother Lawrence.
You may join us in two ways:
-
In-person in Covenant Hall! We will gather for a soup supper at 6 p.m. and in-person study begins at 7 p.m. Kids program will also be provided!
-
For those unable to meet in-person, we will be offering an online meeting from 6:00-6:45 p.m. Zoom link here:. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/567112071
We try to limit our use of plastics and one-use items, so if you can bring your own soup bowl, cup, spoon, and any other utensils for supper, that would be great.
Maundy Thursday - April 14
-
Seder Dinner - There will be a Seder Dinner at 6 p.m., at the church. A free-will offering will be taken to help defray the cost of the meal.
Good Friday - April 15

- We will also follow the RUCC tradition of bringing flowers from our own gardens to decorate the altar Easter morning.
- Brunch after the 10:30 a.m. service.
- Easter Sunday Egg Hunt will take place in the garden for kids in 5th grade and under. Bring your basket! No basket? No worries, we'll have one to loan you. Youth in 6th grade and older will have their traditional Scavenger Hunt.

Reflection of the Week from the Racial Justice Team
|
During the trans-Atlantic slave trade, an estimated 12.5 million people who were enslaved were transported from Africa to the Americas with 1.8 million dying en route, on 35,000 voyages. Roughly a thousand of these vessels sank, but only a few have ever been found. National Geographic explorer and diver Tara Roberts has been identifying and documenting the remains of slave-ship wrecks—and is hoping to honor the lives of these people who have been all but forgotten by history.

Valet Parking Service Available
|
Valet parking service is now available on Sunday mornings for those who find it difficult to park in the parking lot and make the walk up the hill to the Sanctuary doors.
If you want to drop off someone or something in the circular drive, please do not park in front of the curbless area in front of the Sanctuary doors. That is the only location where people who use wheelchairs or walkers can access the doors to the narthex. Please pull forward and park temporarily or park behind that curbless area temporarily to drop off something. If you are dropping off a person who is using a wheelchair or walker, pull to the left side of the drive across from the curbless area so they can cross the circular drive and use the curbless area without blocking it. .
