Latest Polling Shows Toss-up Governor’s Race
The Marquette University Law School released its first poll in the wake of the August Primary Election. Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels is within the margin of error of Governor Tony Evers, with Evers leading 45-43 among registered voters. Prior to the primary, Evers led Michels 48-41 in July.
The race is just heating up, and Tim Michels is still just introducing himself to the electorate so a lot can change between now and November. However, here are two key ratings to watch:
- Governor Evers has a 47% approval rating while 45% disapprove.
- Only 35% of Wisconsin voters think the state is on the “right track," while 56% think it is on the wrong track.
Will they blame Governor Evers for that, or someone on the federal level? Joe Biden continues to have a lower approval rating, with only 40% approving his job performance.
Meanwhile in the race for U.S. Senate, Democratic candidate and current Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes has a modest lead over Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson 51-44.
Inflation still tops voters minds, as 67% of voters are “very concerned” about the issue.
As we are still just under three months from Election Day, the dynamics of all the races on the ballot will fluctuate. However, this gives a great snapshot in time of the state of the race as the general election heats up.
